Most of you know that I use old-fashioned hanging rubber bag enemas to manage my neurogenic bowel and fecal incontinence (with doctor’s approval).

I was getting “hosed” and in the middle of retaining a very soapy enema solution. I was suffering very hard cramps when suddenly the fire alarm went off. IMHO, that is possibly the worse thing that could happen. How the heck do you rush when caught in that situation? I was in a panic. Fortunately they turned the alarm off and it turned out to be a false alarm. Deo Gratias.

Everything came out ok  (pun intended).

If I had heard about this happening to someone else I might have laughed.

Incontinence, especially double incontinence, can make us vulnerable as nothing else in our daily lives can. Life goes on, with us or despite us, and we need to adjust. Fire alarms (thankfully sometimes false) that we would have passed off back when we were still continent, now become crises. Thank you for reminding us of our changed circumstance, and what we need to do to manage.

This is what scares me to death about lens replacement after they open your cornea. What happens when your eye is opened up, procedure half done and the fire alarm or some other emergency happens?

Less of an emergency- I know someone who had a root canal done where the file broke off in his tooth on a late Friday afternoon. The dentist sent him home for the weekend to deal with it Monday morning! He suffered a lot that weekend and was NOT a happy camper.

I'm glad that your being hosed didn't involve you (JD) becoming a sissy.
