Here's my problem, I am a type two diabetic. I worked in the housing industry up until last February when the housing market went into the can. Up to this point I was covered under group insurance. When I lost my job, I used cobra insurance and pain through the nose for it.

In July I started my own business and the only insurance I can find is supplemental and not full coverage. If I work for a company that has group insurance, I cannot be denied coverage. However it seems that if I am self-employed I will be denied. This just drives me crazy. I don't have any trouble affording diapers but a stay in the hospital will break the bank.

I ruptured my appendix in August and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. In addition they found three kidney stones and I spent three days there. My medical bills came to thirty-eight thousand dollars and much to my surprise, my insurance company refused to pay any of it. Their comment was that it may have been pre-existing and somehow related to being diabetic! I worked with the hospital and they reduced my bill to sixteen thousand dollars which I have begun to pay on out of my own pocket.

I looked in the the Badger Plan,(I'm from Wisconsin) but I make too much money. I am searching for any advise anyone may have that may help. I'd hate to think that my only recourse is to buy lots of life insurance so my wife will be taken care of after I die.

I know how that goes a person that is close to us has Diabetes. She lost her vision then of course lost her job. her husband was self employed and couldn't get insurance to cover her. BTW they are in Wisconsin to. to make along story short they were able to get the Badger care? From what they said even if you make a decent check and you can't get insured you still should be able to get it but you will have to pay for it every month. But they say it is rather reasonable. Also I gather that most people get turned down the first time so you may want to reapply.

Welcome to the USA, the only industrialized country that does not consider health care a basic human right
The only hope is the Democrats follow through on their promise to either allow people with pre existing conditions to join the federal health care system or ban insurance companies from denying people coverage.

If you can't get insurance Government insurance is a blessing. But on the other hand Government Heath care can be a real pain. With government health care they dictate where you can go who you can see. Often times your not getting the best medical help available.

Case in point Our friend that is on Badger care was told she needs to find a different place to go for her eyes. She has glaucoma she was going to the top doctors in this region. The reason she had all these problems to start with was she was going to a community clinic and some young guy was her doctor. She got allot of bad advice was told nothing could be done and so on because her pressures were to high. Well one day push came to shove and her eyes were in intense pain the pressure was through the roof she went to her doctor he freaked said this was beyond him and sent her to the other place. The other place did an emergency procedure to relieve the pressure.

after words they spoke with the doctors and they were in total disbelief that what the doctor they were seeing told them. You should have been here six months ago! She would still be seeing if she wouldn't have listen to that young guy. She then spent three weeks going there everyday and then off and on for a few more months. Had two surgeries. Now they want her to have two more that should end it once and for all and stabilize her eyes. Now Badger care says they won't cover that and she needs to go back to the schmuck that started all this. Well she is talking about going ahead and having the surgery down. at the place badger care won't cover and then maybe going bankrupt afterwords :?:

It's a wonderful world.................Sandy :)

Yep and people think Government run health care would be so great!! These people need to look into all the foreigners that come to this country to have procedures done. Because the country they are from the health care is run by the government and they won't approve it there.

Sure am glad we have Obama HE'LL SAVE US (WANT TO BET) :?

I did vote for Obama... but I know he's not some sort of "savior" like some folks make out. I just know he'll make things better... it won't be a perfect solution and it won't be easy... but we will get on the right road again.

Are you sure you want government health care? Where going to the doctor would be like going to the dmv? Where the government would decide whether or not you could have a medical procedure you needed? Or if they did allow you to have it, how long you'd have to wait, and which surgeon and hospital you'd be required to use? Think about it....

My frustration meter has been pegged and continues to be so every time I think about this crap. I was talking to an insurance agent about being denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions. I asked why is it that if I work for an employer that has group insurance, I cannot be denied and I can be insured with pre-exiting conditions. However if I am self employed and am applying for individual health insurance and have pre-existing conditions I will be denied. Her answer was simply that it is mandated that group insurance must be available to all employees in a company and cannot be denied. I believe this to translate to big money talks.

I understand the insurance companies are out there to make money, I also know they try to minimize risk. I just hat the way they make me feel. It is like the moment you are diagnosed with a chronic condition you are deemed a second class citizen, it's almost like I committed a felony and now the world has turned its back on me.

I have never been a free loader or a low life. I pay my taxes, and have always worked for everything I have. I realize and am willing to pay a higher premium for health insurance. It just inferiorates me that there is no real reason not to insure me other than some lame double talk mumbo jumbo.

Sounds like legalized extortion to me. Bring on socialised medicine!
