Sphincter shutting mid stream

I have recently found when fighting off repeated attempts by my bladder to empty itself, that when I do get to the toilet, my sphincter closes mid stream. It is very uncomfortable, like severe cramp. It only happens after fighting off urges. Sound familiar anyone.

The bladder cramps you describe sound similar to mine. In my case, the cramps got worse over time, until they were hitting nearly once every hour; I was unable to void enough urine to prevent a spasm. My urologists did not take my complaints seriously until one of them witnessed a spasm with a scope while I was under anesthesia. He described what he saw as a "hissy fit"; there followed a series of Botox shots, followed by a sphincterotomy, twenty years ago, and repeated earlier this week.
