Hi, hope everyone is doing well!

So my fiancé and I are getting married soon and we would like to start trying to conceive immediately after. I'm curious if there are connections between wearing diapers and infertility. I don't have any reason to believe that we are going to have any issues but me being a pessimist, I tend to think of the worst case scenarios.

I wear disposables (cloth backed) only at night so for about 6-8 hours in total generally.

Has anyone experienced infertility of any kind due to wearing diapers? Or where you found there to be no connection to you and your ability to conceive?

Thanks!

I’ve worn nighttime diapers almost all my life, and I fathered two children.

I think the rule of thumb for heat issues and sperm is a few hours so if you only wear at night then you may have a reduced chance in the morning but of course, my understanding if you use tight cotton briefs during the day that can also be an issue. so yes it may be possible to produce issues it is not a guarantee and if you are really trying you should go a few hours with no constraints as it were!

diapers cause infertility due to heat. Period, end of story. They trap way too much heat.

When my wife and I had our first child she got pregnant the very first week we tried. Over the next year, my incon started and by the time we started trying for our 2nd kid, I was in diapers every night and pullups during the day.

We tried for a full year and she just wouldn't get pregnant. I read this study and was convinced it was the diapers. I stopped wearing to bed and slept on a pile of towels every night. Sure enough, about 70 nights without diapers, just as the study results would predict, she got pregnant.

The timing is too spot on to be a coincidence and given that with our first child we got pregnant the first time we tried but struggled so much the second time with diapers being the ONLY variable, I'm certain this was the cause.

Check it out.

You may need to find a diaper alternative for a few months (cath or condom cath?)

This article talks about the study....the Second link is to the actual study.

Congrats! But that is good to hear! Were there any issues either time in terms of it taking longer?

Thanks for your response! I'm generally out of my night diaper by 8 am the latest and that would give me anywhere from 4 - 12 hours of "recovery" based on your belief.

I Researched this many years ago when I first got married and I am not an expert with this but I don't think to wearing a diaper just overnight will be an issue for you but IT MAY, really depends on how hot your body gets remember you diaper won't get hotter than your body and while sperm needs to be 4 degrees cooler its not like sitting in a hot tub, you might want to use breathable diapers like the new Attends Premier or any Truly breathable diaper (not all cloth-like are breathable) while they may not reduce temp overall it could help...

I think you may find many variables with this search

Thank you! I really appreciate all the information I can get on it. I really don't have any issues with running hot during the course of the night, at least not now during the "winter" months even though I live in a very hot state. I currently use Molicare Super Plus so they aren't as thick or cumbersome I'm sure many of you all use.

As you said, it wouldn't be as extreme as a hot tub or even a hot shower so fingers crossed they don't have any negative effect! I'm just trying to figure it out so that if the time comes then I may need to go diaper-less for a while or find something to use while trying. Ironically the diapers may not have an effect but the stress they are causing of worry may!

Patrick,
If you do need a break from diapers you might take a look at this product. It looks like it would work well if you sleep on your back. I ordered some samples, but have not tried them yet. https://quickchange.com/
If anybody else has tried this product, let us know. It looks like it is a product for mostly hospitals to use when a persion is not too mobile.
