finances are going to be super tight in january.
my medicaid pays .88 cents a diaper and i pay the rest.
the best thing medicaid totally pays for are tranquility slimline.
ive had leaks with those in the past however i have not used them with a booster.
medicaid pays for boosters completely so i can get those.
i could probably pay at 50 bucks at the most, but thats the most that i could feasibly do.

does anyone have any suggestions for a diaper that fits into the .88 cent cost or close to that that doesnt suck?

thanks

If you are not averse to using a drug store brand, you can try Wallgreens Certainty. The large size cost about 50 cents each. Sometimes even less when they are on sale. I add a booster and they last me 5 to 6 hr.

I agree with RetiredRN's post about the Walgreens/CVS Certainty diaper, they are at least decent and can often be found on a buy one get one half off sale. I'd then add a small baby diaper to that as a booster. They hold a huge amount and can be easily removed and another added as needed. The total price for that combo would be around 75 cents.

im kinda thinking of trying cathing again.
although ive gotten an infection before im wondering if i shouldnt give it another shot. i think i gave up too fast last time.
ive given it a lot of thought. its what my doctor wants and i have a ton of catheters. i can get away with getting a case of abena abri-flex pull ups and that will last me a month and be in my budget.
i also have some totaldrys leftover since i spent 10 days in colorado and had a case shipped there so i wasnt using my supplies for this month.

anyway, im gonna give it some more thought and its time to board my plane home.

thanks for the suggestions.

ps. when people clean before cathing what do you reccommend using? i was thinking of cleaning with wipes before hand and then doing it.
thanks

Had so many horror experience with catheters and it only takes a tiny problem to give an horrific infection never again diapers all the way for me!

Do you have a charity or community group near where you live that can help you out either with diapers or funds!

Take care and look after yourself!

thanks greenbank. i think you are right.
ive actually figured out that i can do abena and have it fit in my budget.
its a little over, but i can get 4 cases for around 60 bucks. (with medicaid)
this may sound silly but i am weary of store bought brands and not sure i want to try something new in case it doesnt work. abenas have worked well for me in the past and i think i would rather sacrifice a bit and get what i know will work.
real world incontinence helped me pin down the cost of abenas so thanks to them for that!

If you have a supply of catheters, and if you keep yourself super clean, they may be a useful stopgap. Good luck getting through January, and keep us informed.

patrick - yea thats what im thinking too.
ironically my rep from coloplast called and wanted to see how i was getting along and gave me some tips.
he suggested cleaning myself with alcohol prep pads before cathing should majorly reduce my risk of infection.

so ill try that i guess.

ill indeed keep you all posted.

I dont think the cathing is going to work. If it was going to be successful I would have to do it every 3 hours. And I just cant shove something up in me all the time throughout the day.
I ended up ordering 4 cases of abena l4. With my Medicaid it cost me $63. I have a friend who is going to help me out with groceries. Next month should be a bit easier because one of my bills was paid off this month. Its been a nightmare with my home health aide. She didnt show up 3 out of 5 days last week and was late the other 2. She really takes advantage of me. I'm trying to get a new one but it's been a process.

if you have been asked to self cath then it is for a reason why not just try first thing in a morning when you feel ready, sometime in the afternoon and last thing before bed.

it is one thing wearing diapers but you still have a problem going on inside and if left it will only get worse.

try the above and see how you get on, you never know till you try.
