I guess it's a good news, bad news sort of thing. I've finally found a doctor who has taken my incontinence seriously instead of just brushing it off and ignoring it. So, the neurologist I'd been seeing for my pain symptoms is sending me to see a urologist about it.

Anyway, on her paperwork, it stated the reason for the referral as "bladder incontinence." Unfortunately, either her handwriting is not very good, or this secretary isn't too bright. When the secretary was calling to make the appointment, she asked a few people, "What does it say? Bladder what?" It was repeated out loud a few times among the staff "I think it's bladder incontinence," until finally I just said "Yes that's what it says" before the whole office heard.

I've had a few run ins as well with the medical community. I was stuck in a hospital for close to a week due to a female issue when I was allot younger. I had a nurse say out loud at the counter when I was checking in. I see according to your chart your incontinent how often do you need to change and so on and she said they wanted to cath me but I refused. Mined you all this while I'm standing at the counter with a room full of people. Well once I got my room it was a struggle for me to have to have someone else change me or at least help me. But then about two days later I had some aid that was tending to me that day say to me while she was changing me you are enjoying this aren't you. I was shocked I didn't know what to say. I said NO I'M NOT! She said then why can't we cath you. I said I don't like putting anything in my body and how I don't want to chance a infection and so on. She rolled her eyes and said if I really wanted to I could control myself. but people like you are just lazy aren't you. Well at that point I had tears. She later asked if I was kinda spoiled when I was a child. I said far from it I told her a few things and so on. But the good news was after that day I didn't see her the rest of the time I was there. And didn't have any more problems after that........................Sandy

I am sorry to hear your story i had the excat same thing happen to me while I was in the hospital for ulcers, the nurse said "we are either going to cath you, or you can lie in your bodily fluids, no one here is going to change your diaper!" What I did was is lie in my bodily fluids for a day untill my GF came and raised hell, I mean she was screaming to all high hell on the floor and they simply told her I was lazy and it was not their problem. People are ignorant and even when faced with hard evidence they will never admit they were wrong, cause they dont want to look stupid.

Please, the above stories CANNOT be true! How unprofessional! If you don't want to be cathed, that is YOUR choice! It is definetly NOT true that those who wear diapers instead of using caths enjoy wearing diapers. I don't like the idea of sticking some tube up my thing.. or having some tube attached to my johson with glue. The medical people i have encountered have all been very professional. They wrote me a script for diapers with no problem. In fact they wrote 2 of em, signed off on one. I had no problems at all getting the OK from my urologist to wear diapers. No one even mentioned cathing.

If this is true what you say you should be in touch with a lawyer. That level of humilation is way over the top. I'm sure there's a ambulance chasing lawyer out there that would love to dig their claws into that one.

While that is a hard one to swallow. I have seen and heard some other bad ones as well that leave me to think that maybe anything is posible with the medical community :x Don't forget nursing homes I've heard some real nightmears about those places as well

.................Sandy :x

A good idea none the less but it was over 7 years ago! At the time I was not very much into arguing with people, she said "cath, no diapers" so I just said fine! When she made the comment I can lie in my urine, that is just what I did and said nothing about it, even when they came into change my IV i guess you could say I enabled them by not making a fuss. But when my GF had gone nuts (the same nurse just told her I was to lazy to use the BR) the nurse administator had asked me what was going on I told her "they said I could lie here in my bodily fluids, so i did" and she said "for a whole day?", so then she simply shook her had and brought diapers in...I was in for 7 days, and never saw the other nurse again!
