About two weeks ago I saw my urologist for my annual once over. He asked me about what I get out of this support site. I told him the support that I am not alone, how others have gotten through situations, what to wear, etc.... Well that was in the office. I decided to share with him via secure messaging the http://www.incontinentsupport.org/Intro ... iapers.pdf

He did respond back with "Thank you for the information. It does look very comprehensive. I will review and share." I am willing to bet most of the stuff in there he hasn't thought about.

think the main problem when it comes to urologist is that they are only intrested in treatment for anything else it is up to who ever to get the diaper or pads set up for the person to use.

i went to general surgery years ago and he wanted to check me down below at that time my incontinence was only very mild and was wearing something like ordinary underwear which had a built in pad, he just said i have never seen that sort before.

also while in sheffield UK i went to hospital and a nurse wanted to do a scan, i had then changed to some kind of modern diaper and she also more or less said the same.

as mentioned these people are only trained to deal with the medical side but still their training should also include the types of products so they can at least advise what to use or even issue prescriptions for the products.

I have talked to my GP about how I manage my incontinence and it was a real eye opener for him. We had been friends for years before we had the doctor - patient relationship, so we already had a good trust built up between us.
I had tried so many different drugs, and none of them worked. Most had terrible side effects and in all cases I still needed diapers. Once I explained that to him, it was like I opened him to a whole new view of treatment. Simple management is possible, and the side effects are very predictable.

Just a few years ago, I had a very productive conversation with my urologist and he described his extensive medical training but admitted he knew very little about the many different types of incontinence products available. He went on to tell me what little he knew came from the feedback of the many different patients he saw. He did make one comment that I found to be interesting. He said in all the medical training a doc receives before they become a urologist they don't take, or receive any product training. That part of their training is "hands-on" and it is up to each urologist to learn about such things on their own. Medical they know, products they don't which is why many doc's have the attitude one type fits all.

If you want to learn product information come to this form and ask those that know. Don't expect to get good product information form ANY doc. Ask the people that use the product.

Just me thoughts on the subject.
