I know just what you are saying and experiencing, with heat and hunidity and sweating and diapers.
Just as Papa pointed out how he was pretty comfortable in cloth diapers in the heat, I want to jump in and agree, and hope to have you try the cloth in the heat.
But I want to add a couple of things I feel are very important.
First I'd say you have to effectively fight sag. A sagging diaper is uncomfortable under any conditions but it becomes downright intolerable in the heat. Disposables, because they must be changed more often, do better in this regard if taped on snugly. But cloth lasts longer and will be comfortable (believe it or not) if you can keep them up! Best way is with the suspender briefs but a very close second is the body suit. Not a onzie, which I consider too soft and it lacks real support, but a real body suit that snaps in the crotch and is 90% cotton for comfort and 10% lycra which provides the compression and decent support for a diaper assuming it is pinned snugly to start with. <bodysuit.com>
Second, consider waterproof pants made of nylon or other synthetic material that is coated with polyurethane. They do a very decent job keeping your clothing dry. Yes they feel a bit clammy in the crotch after your diaper gets wet, but that's a good thing on a hot day; evaporative cooling is taking place in your hot, between the legs, area. The nylon outer of the waterproof pants has better slip and will chaffe less or not at all. There are many; one of my favorites is Duratex (DuralineMedical) for plain white and now I've added the colorful adult prints found in the Bumpkins waterproof pants offered by ChangingTimesDiaperCo. I know I am a serious cloth diaper fan, but I do believe my cloth diaper is more comfortable than a disposable in the extreme heat. I also can understand the reluctance to pull on a pair of plastic pants since one thinks "instant heat" and to some degree that is true. Before I discoverd nylon waterproof pants many years ago, I relied on powder and reapplication several times a day. That works well if you can break away and sneak some talc into the crotch area. It is pretty essential with plastic pants and not so necessary with the nylon pants, tho it still helps when ever you can do it. I keep talc in the car, of course, since I can get to my car somewhat periodically.

I Drank enough water that I changed several times but still managed to get the start of a rash in my crotch area 
I used disposables As hot as it was Cloth with plastic pants didn't seem like a good idea.
Of course they did have handicap ones there but were always taken by the none handicap people 
Should have gone today Much cooler and the humidity is way down 
I can imagine how uncomfortable it must have been to be without protection in the cockpit. but the fact that you both were able to do that together sounds like your relationship is beginning to mature.
I don't think it would had made much of a difference in avoiding the heat rash
