I posted in the medical tests section but no one responded. I have my urodynamics test on Friday and I'm terrified. The last time they couldn't get the catheter in. It was horrible and traumatic. They tell me they are using a smaller catheter this time. It's not reassuring. It was so bad last time I left in tears. I hate this.

I'm not sure what kind of advice I can give you, but I have had 3 or 4 of these tests. I may have been lucky, but after the initial insertion of the catheter I was fine...not comfortable, but not painful either. A trus-biopsy on the other hand is something I would not wish on anyone. Good luck. Maybe this one won't be as bad.

Its all about having the right mind set. Just try not to think about whats going on during it, just find your happy place. Never liked having it done myself but what can you do, its the life we live!

I would hope you have a different doctor/nurse doing the procedure this time. The last one may have not been that experienced at doing it.

True. I have a trauma history and the last one completely triggered it. I'm going to explain this to the doctor who is going to do the test. I'm just scared.

And yea batman it's a different doctor.

Do let the person that is doing the test know that you are nervous. If you want everything explained before it is done tell them that. Try not to be embarrassed these people do this test all the time. It is just another day in the office for them. By the way I have had this test several times.

Thanks RetiredRN I will.

And sorry to everyone that I got upset. I just don't want a repeat of last time.

i would also check with your home helpers and see if they would let someone go with you like they do with me here that may bring you some comfort also

I had my Urodynamics this morning.
Whilst it was uncomfortable and a little undignified, it wasn't horrific.
They also gave me the result there and then, they said I had a 'classic overactive bladder'.

mattwp - unfortunately the aid support I was getting ended because I'm doing outpatient physical therapy (some Medicare insurance bs). I did get my final approval for my permanent home health aid and should be hearing from a case worker soon.

Drew81 - that's great. I hope I get my results that day and this time is easier. My test is at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon. I'll let you all know what it goes.
