I have been using Coloplast Conveen Optima with the Coloplast Conveen Security+ 800ml leg bag. This is a excellent setup, VERY secure. The glue is so strong, as long as your skin is clean before applying, a "blow off" would be impossible in my opinion. Actually the glue is so strong I need to use adhesive remover wipes to remove it. I have yet to try a skin prep with it, but I imagine the hold would be even stronger. The tip has a anti-kink end that actually works for me. The tubing also does not kink, and the straps are comfortable. Routing of the tubing can be a bit tricky, but what works for me is to leave the tube uncut, and sort of snake it in a "s" shape down my leg, and place the bag on my lower leg. I have yet to try upper leg for wearing shorts. I still use briefs/diapers when I need to (bowel) or am relaxing at home. I use the external when I am going to be out of the house, and/or active (I do a bowel cleanout if needed). This cath setup has been life changing for me. |

I am glad that you can make external catheters work so well for you. I guess my skin must be very oily, because I have not found an external that will stay in place. All my worst accidents have been while I was wearing an external that failed. |

All my worst accidents have been while I was wearing an external that failed. That was my point, this external is not like the others. I have tried samples of just about every brand, and every other brand/model failed due to poor design. Not only does the Optima work, it is a significantly better design then the others, because of the design of the end, that prevents kinks and blow-offs. The glue is basically the same glue they use for ostomy bags, as I am unable to remove it without adhesive remover wipes (it would tear skin off!). I understand externals are not a solution for every guy, but I don't understand the resistance against them (and other solutions), especially if something might work. It is like some people want to wear a diaper no matter what, and reject any and all other options. Not saying that is your case, or pointing at anyone particular, just seems to be a general theme (maybe I am wrong). |

I also have had great luck with the Conveen external catheter. Two things that are important are to use the skin prep and make sure you have the correct size. I have gone two days without any leakage and felt I could have gone a little longer. For removal, a warm wet washcloth facilitates the removal. I use a smaller leg bag because of the weight of the larger sizes and have managed to find the correct length to trim the tube. This has been a great alternative to a diaper. Especially in warmer weather. Hope this helps. |
