As the title says. The reason is that the plastic had split on about 90% of those I have wore so far. I will confess that I usually use some duct tape across the diaper tapes to keep them from popping lose as I work. But I have done this ever since i started having to wear diapers and this is the first diaper I have consistently had this issue with. Once I go through this case of Molicare I will never try them again. Back to Absorbency Plus for me. Much more satisfying product IMO.

That's odd. Molicares always held up good for me in the past. Have they been cheapened up a lot in the last few years? That does seem to be a growing, bad trend.

You did mention you normally need duct tape though too. Are you sure you're using the right size? I do know from many, many, others (on other sites) that this is a common problem when the diaper is sized too small.

A lot of people don't realize the manufacturers cut their diapers based on a person's waist size (measured near the belly button). They look at that size and think it will match up with their pant size (which is even smaller than their hip size they are actually thinking, and which is often also smaller than their waist too).

Another complaint I often see is they don't want to feel like they are swimming in a diaper, so they purposely go one size down. The problem with this is that the cutouts for the legs have different diameter ranges they work for. If your legs are too big for that cut then this will cause the rest of the diaper to fit too tight as well.

Of course, the end result of this is you will often leak over the top of the diaper, the tapes will pop off a lot, and yup the diaper will tend to burst open (usually after it gets wet enough to try and expand).

Diapers for any age/size range all have common fittings in mind. They are intended to extend up over the belt/hip line and up to the belly button. They are supposed to also be snug but not tight. This allows enough material to absorb a large wetting, for the diaper to expand when wet and/or enough room to contain a bowell movement.

The leg openings should also be snug but not tight. You should be able to easily get a couple of fingers under it without any problem. The top is also supposed to be equally snug, allowing for about four fingers under the waistband.

I'm not saying you aren't aware or following any of this, but it could be the source of your problem if you haven't considered it.

Everybody has a diaper they have tried and hate. If they don't fit right we tend to pull the tapes to tight. At least you know they don't work for you. I used them and didn't like them as well as other brands.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, I am sure I am wearing the right size. But bigger belly and smaller hips. If I don't pull it tight it slides down really easily. And I have an active job. As soon as I need to twist or bend the tapes will (often) pop loose or pull off entirely. On the top tapes I actually make a duct tape belt. Lower tapes just a piece on each side to keep them in place...

Mlhjr is dead on. Even if worn and sized correctly, there are just always going to be some brands that will not fit right for some people.

Have you tried any other brands lately? You just might find one that fits so much better they end up costing you less overall (and with less hassle to boot).

I prefer a "tight" diaper. The less it has to hang between my legs the better, so I do my belt. The Molicare seems to be made with a thinner outer layer. They simply are not effective for me.

Understood, but you're going to find these same problems with most any diaper that is worn too tight like this.

The one exception I know of is Bambino. Their diapers are specifically designed to be worn one size too small. They have a much thicker plastic backing, and utilize a tape landing zone where the zone and tapes are also made stronger. You might want to give them a try.

Actually Molicare is the one diaper that I have had this (consistently) happen with. All others have resisted tearing.

Hi All

I have been wearing Molicare fabric ever since going 24/7 in diapers without any problems. I wear onesie, compression/stretch pants and a waterproof cover as this keeps things snug and puts back what was lost when Molicare stoped plastic backed (I add a booster pad overnight). I for one could not be happier as this works for me each one to their own though. The fabric alows greater air circulation and rashes occur less often for me.

Hope this assist is some small way.
