Post subject: | going on a retreat |
so a group im involved in is doing a 2 day retreat in virginia. we will leave on sunday and come back on monday. my plan is this: pack enough diapers and clothes in one bag. take a second bag thats empty. put wet diapers in plastic bags and put them in the empty bag. dispose of diapers when we get back in town. im hoping to stay in a room with a bathroom that way i can sneak off to the bedroom, grab my stuff, and go into the bathroom to change without anyone knowing. any tips would be appreciated. |

Justj, In my experience with retreats, it probably will be a close environment and you may find it difficult to hide everything about your incontinence. Discreetely disposing of used diapers may still be a problem. You may find it to be less stressful to confide in your roommate. Enjoy your retreat. --John |

I'd mention it to the guestmaster now or when you arrive. I'm Catholic, and have visited many different monasteries and retreat centers (Catholic, Orthodox, Zen, etc.). In my experience, they are almost always very hospitable places. At a minimum, I'm sure your hosts could offer you a way to throw away used diapers. Blessed retreat. Noe |

Hi justej The only issue with saving up diapers is the smell particularly if you are in a confined space. If you are not able to dispose on site and are driving there perhaps put a diaper caddy in the car I use Sangenic. I feel sure the good folk at the retreat are understanding and if you do not know anyone there you have the luxury of declaring that you wear diapers and are incontinent and they can start from that point. People are understanding. I hope you have a fantastic time after all the problems you deserve it. Greenbank |

Hi justej If they are true friends they will not care you might be surprised. The retreat must have had people with incontinence before and if they are not accomidating shame on them. Never feel embarrassed you are a great person just remember that. Greenbank |

Justej, Now that you have told your friends you will find out the ones that are really your friends. They are the ones that will help you with your disability. By telling them you may have opened a door of great support that you need. Now they can help you get away when you need to. It might be good for you to go and get away from your routine. I can't image the retreat area doesn't produce it own trash and you couldn't throw away your wet diapers with it. I would hope when they say trash; they mean cups, wrappers, paper etc.. Does the retreat allow babies? I would find it hard to believe they would require parents to carry a babies soiled diaper. |

Justj, Don't beat your self up over this. You did the right and responsible thing. ![]() It is understandable that you feel a bit nervous, but try to relax and enjoy your retreat. ![]() --John |

Thanks John. I have until November 4th to worry myself silly. First I have to worry about my trip to Colorado to visit my family on Thursday. ![]() |
