Prostatitis causes a burning sensation while urinating. Many here will know what I am talking about. Some have a mild form of this, and some have it worse. I have been heading in the "worse" direction for the last several years. It used to be intermittent or at least predictable. But it's becoming consistently worse rather than just occasionally worse. There are medications for the frequency, urgency, and pain caused by prostatitis. In my experience, their side effects (memory problems, depression, etc.) are worse than prostatitis is. Diapers are not a cure, but they are palliative, because for some reason constant dribbling doesn't cause the burning sensation that full voids do. Has anyone found any effective treatment for the burning sensation? Thank you for your information and reflections.

Noe,

A course of antibiotics and continued use of high doses of Flomax managed to control my prostatitis. I continue to have a chronic inflamed prostate, but without the discomfort. I do cath several times a day for post-residual voids.

Have you seen a urologist?

Thanks John. Yes, I have a urologist and have met with him many times. Unfortunately, I am allergic to FlowMax. I've ruled out continuing with bladder medications because of the side effects. The pain is harmless, but it has been getting worse in several respects. Ultrasounds, at least for now, do not suggest that catheters would be necessary for me. I'm fine with diapers as a pain-management strategy, if that's the best option. I don't know of anyone else who does that, but it seems to work for me.
