Post subject:  From Dry to Humid ...
In a few days, I'll be traveling from my nice dry climate (Southern California) to a very humid climate (Orlando). Way back when, I did this same trip and it led to my very first UTI which initiated my incon journey ( :twisted: ).

I'm reaching out to all those folks in the humid environs for any last minute advice. I have powder, rash ointments, plenty of diapers for frequent changes, antibiotics in case of a UTI, voiding regime, etc. ... Any other tips or words of wisdom that any of you can share?!? I'm trying to avoid UTIs (for obvious reasons).

You are doing everything right. I would add airing out each day, try to wash your diaper area mid-day, if you are able, and change more frequently if you detect any pre-rash irritation. Some users change to breathable diapers. I continue to wear plastic but try to include one breathable diaper per day in addition to airing out.

I just got back from Orlando (this morning), but I'm only diapered at night, so I'm not so much help on that front.

I would second what JD just wrote. I step up changes and stop to clean area even if its not time to change. This has allowed me to keep rashes a bay. But like you I always have antibiotic with me at all times just in case it happens.

I live in Hampton Roads, VA so I get humid... not as bad as Orlando, but tough. I just change more often, though I sometimes guiltily feel like I am wasting an unfull diaper.

So how was your trip, and how well did you manage the humidity of my home state?

If you haven't been yet though, make sure you drink plenty of water. You will sweat a lot more in humid environments, which will concentrate your pee and even slow your urinary system down. This can irritate your bladder, and as you found, can also lead to getting a UTI.

I would also recommend you set aside some time to air out your skin each day. I like to undiaper and lay out on my bed with the ceiling fan on high. (I use a baby diaper to catch and dribbling). This will dry out my skin in just a few minutes, and does wonders for preventing and clearing up rashes.

Hi

I found plastic backed diapers a nightmare in hot weather so switched to Molicare I am so glad I did. To keep maximum airflow if practicable I just wear the diaper. Us men need to break down the clothing stereotypes when I am out and about I wear a skort/kilt or extreamly loose fitting shorts with terry/compression pants over the diaper (wearing a diaper and a sports skirt in the car with air con on is great too) this all helps me maintain airflow around the diaper. I also change more so that the diaper does not become soaked in sweat. When changing I find places with showers to reduce the possibility of rashes and infections. If I know that I am going to be somewhere without a shower I pack a portable solar shower and leave it in the sun (in the car) to heat up and find a descreet place to hang the shower and change. The primer was a god send as far as hygine and airing out is great too especially in rooms with air con keeps the skin fresh. I too keep well hydrated as this helps look after the skin along with barrier cream.

I hope this helps a bit with the problems that one faces in hot weather.

B Brain. I'm actually in your home state right now. So far so good.

That's good to hear. You are here during a good time now too. Near perfect room temp outside right now, and very little humidity. Varied, but cloudy for most of florida right now too, so the sun won't bake you. And if you happen to catch a little liquid sunshine (raining with the sun shining), just wait 5 minutes and it will change.

Thanks to all for the helpful tips and advice. I am happy to say no rashes, no UTIs, and we had a great time to boot! Florida is a great state to visit!
