Does anybody here use a health savings account, particularly the CIGNA HSA? My health insurance just recently switched to an HSA on January 1. I am told that it does cover the diapers and the catheters. I have yet to buy either with the new plan and was wondering if anybody here could shed a little bit of light on the process of purchasing these items. I am already using a CIGNA approved in network provider for my Foley supplies and can use them for the diapers as well which would streamline the ordering and make bulk shipping easier. I was wondering if anybody had used an "out of network" provider such as any of the businesses/retailers/vendors you may have frequented over the years for the purchase of your supplies and how that worked as far as getting reimbursed by your health insurance. I am excited about this new health insurance and especially about not having to pay out-of-pocket for the diapers. I still catch a lot of flak from the wife when I have to purchase these. Most of the time I buy them out of my "small business account" which is supposed to be my fun money and money which runs my "small business" so that she doesn't raise hell about $100-$125 at a time diaper purchases. |

I do not, but probably should since it's tax deductible too. I have heard that yes, a HSA can be used for all kinds of "medical" supplies- right on down to bandaids and q-tips (and most certainly incontinence supplies of all kinds especially diapers). Your income isn't taxed with a HSA, and you get to claim any taxes you paid for charges with your HSA. This works regardless of who you get the supplies from- including any manufacturer, store, online retailer, etc. However; you absolutely will have to save every- single- receipt as proof of what you claim. (which is the reason why I don't use a HSA myself). |
