Hey all, Just a quickie. Those of you that have tried Oxybutynin (Detrol). How soon did you see any results? I'm on day 3 and have absolutely no change in symptoms. It's like I'm taking aspirin. Just NOTHING changing or improving. Same OAB same urge...... Ted |

Ted, It takes a few days before you see a change. The good news that you haven't had any bad side affects that can show up with the first pill. |

Detrol gave me overwhelming dry mouth, so that I inadvertently drank way too much, which greatly exacerbated my bladder problem. It very nearly ruined my kidneys. The only good thing I can say about it is that it convinced the urologist I was seeing at the time to do a complete work-up, which led eventually to the surgery which solved my difficulty. |

Hey Patrick, Out of curiosity what did the urologist find? Did the surgery cure the problem? |

The surgery protected my kidneys from reflux damage, and it ended years of intense bladder pain. In that sense it was successful. However, that surgery ended all hope of ever regaining bladder control. I understand that sphincterotomy surgery may be inappropriate, or possibly even dangerous, for many; however, it gave me blessed relief. |

Hello Patrick, I'm sorry to hear the hand dealt you. It makes my problems sound pretty lame. OAB isn't really a problem till I'm out of reach of a bathroom. That and night time issues that are at least partly due to meds that I take for depression. If I may ask, What is a Sphincterotomy? I'm guessing it's some sort of surgical procedure? |

Tried it back when it really was just Detrol. Again when it became the more modern Detrol LA (now just called Detrol again I believe). It's been a long while, but as I recall the dry mouth was severe, and it also gave me mild headaches and a near constant case of mild diarrhea. Not worth it, but by all means make sure you rule it out though or you urologist will always think "what if" and never be able to move on like you want him to. |
