I just got a case of Attends the other day and the darn tapes keep coming lose. I have to keep a roll of tape on hand when I change to reinforce the tapes. Anyone else been having troubles with the Attends tapes?....Sandy

Sandy,
I use to use attends way back when, but I use Tena now. I sometimes had a problem with the tapes on the aateends diaper not being sticky enough to hold. When you bent over, the tape would pop off.
Since I've been using the Tena Ultra diaper, I too have had some problems with their tapes. One 40 count bag had several tapes stuck to the cloth outer covering which made them useless. Since they came from HDIS, I told them, and they replaced the entire bag at no cost to me!
I've been in a baby diaper factory doing some steel work, and I've seen those machines work. Every thing is made so fast, it's easy to get some rejects once in a while. Just keep your tape handy, Sandy. ...Paul

Hi Sandy

I normally rely on disposable pads (2 x AbriLet 15 x 60 cms) and reusable Suprima plastic pants for my everyday/night protection, but on certain occasions, i.e. when traveling, I wear Molicare Super Plus all-in-ones with those (darn) side tapes. Only very rarely have found the tapes themselves to be defective in any way, but I have learned about a very important no-no. I found that if I have even the slightest touch of lotion or any ointment on my hands when touching the tape surface, it will certainly not stick. Absolutely squeaky-clean and dry fingers are a must when touching the tapes.

Love

Marjorie

Majorie,
You are so right! Even the slightest amount of lotion on your fingers pulling the tape over will ruin the adhesive. You're forced then to use some tape or just go around with one tape unfastened! Very frustrating! .....Paul

Hi Marjorie
I've never had a problem with tapes on the attends till now. I was talking to a supplier down south about it they told me that if the briefs were stored in an area that was very hot like an attic that could cause the tapes to lose there stickiness. I've never known the molicare briefs to have really good tapes. The work ok for me during the day but when I use them at night they like to come untaped? I'm thinking maybe when I roll over the tapes catch on the sheets? but if I wear pajama bottoms that usually helps. But now that summers here I like to wear as little as possible at night. I just reinforce the tapes with a little masking tape seem to work rather well. BTW your right about getting something on the tapes. That will kill them every time.................Sandy

I can't add much to the good posts on bad tapes. I've used a lot of disposable diapers inspite of being a cloth diaper fan. I hate to keep bringing up the better quality of European diapers since we can't have them here in the US, but my experience with diapers in the UK was all positive: great diapers and great tapes.

But for us in the US, filement tape works very well to cover factory tapes and render them secure. I also like a middle tape; it makes the diaper a lot snugger and keeps it up as it gets heavy. And the Abenas do get heavy by the time I'm ready to change. The down side to filement tape is changing diapers. It does NOT peel off....which is why it works so well! If you use the filement tape and must change away from home, be sure to carry a pair of blunt nose scissors with you so you can cut down the sides of the diaper at removal time.

I've posted this elsewhere but it does belong with Sandy's "those darn tapes" thread.

In this case we are talking about Abenas. Normally I wear the X Plus which is the top of the line / most absorbant. The tapes are "OK", nothing special. Overnight, same as Sandy observed with an other diaper, the tapes come off. I usually find a lower tape taped onto my leg when it started off being taped onto the dipaer!

But really bad tapes showed up in my "lighten up for summer" experiment when I switched from Attends 10 (which had good tapes) to the lightest Abena, the Plus. I couldn't even get four tapes applied before one or more would pop loose. Now that's pretty bad. Once I got the four tapes applied, it would only be a matter of 2-3 minutes before one would pop and it wouldn't stick anymore. So filement tape to make those diapers stay on.

To XP Medical's credit, Gary immediately sent a replacement case of (different) diapers and is looking into the problem! I highly recommend XP Medical as a trustworthy site with which to do business!

FWIW: I agree Molicare never had good tapes and that's why I switched to Abenas in the first place. The X Plus is as good as the original Moli and the tapes, while not great, are better than Moli tapes.

Hey all
Just a thought A supplier I deal with from time to time was telling me that diapers need to be stored in a climate controlled rooms. hot temperatures will cause the tapes to lose there stick. Well why is it that the diapers from overseas tapes never stick. Is it maybe that they are shipped in containers on container ships. The containers can sit for weeks or months out in the sun. Could this be why the diapers from over seas have so many problems with their tapes? That's what stinks most of the best disposable diapers you can wear are from europe but their also the ones with the worst tapes. But note a few years ago I did have a case of Molicares super plus that had good tapes?.................Sandy

Sandy,
Did you see my earlier post on the new Tena Ultras? I've been using these for a week and the hook system works very well. They have not torn nor come loose. I can get them really tight too. No plastic front so they're quiet. No worry about lotions either. ................Paul

Hi Paul
Yes I saw your post about the tena's. I have not yet seen those. I still have some of the last ones they came up with. Actually come to think of it I'm wearing one right now :) Those new ones your speaking of sound allot like the Prevails Breathable They have that type of Velcro tape your talking about. you can re attach them but you have to be careful not to pull to hard on them. In my opinion there a close runner up to the Tena's ultra's The only real difference in my opinion is the crotch isn't as wide as the Tena's And I don't think the the prevails tend to come apart as easy as far as clumping goes..........................Sandy
