My wife and I have been trying for a while to get pregnant and have not been successful. I am worried my diapers might be killing my sperm.

I tried to use a catheter from a medical supply store and it failed catastrophically... Also the bag on my thigh felt very obvious even with nothing in it...

Can anyone who has been in this predicament give me some advice?

A) is my diaper going to be that much of a hindrance to my sperm

B) what is the best type of catheter to have for stealth and least likely to pop off/ irritate the skin of my penis

Thank you!

My wife and I tried for over ten years before our first came along. My IC issues did not kick in till later, so I cannot comment on what diapers might do to your fertility. I can say that before you worry too much about it, have a sperm test done. A simple look in the microscope can confirm the health, motility (active-ness), and quantity of your swimmers.

It turned out in our case, the problem was with both of us. Once the proper treatment was found, our kids came rather easily. Now I am sweating how I will pay for college- it's a good problem to have. :)

Went through that question awhile ago. With broken plumbing it is easy to jump to conclusions. We were worried it was me, so had the doc do a sperm count to make sure. I would highly recommend that path. A good fertility doc may have some additional suggestions for you. Good luck!

Can't speak to whether the diapers are killing your sperm. I tend to think not.....however I will say that keep on trying. The more you do it, the more likely you are to get her pregnant. My wife was pregnant within a month of going off the BC pill with our first son. That was before extreme urinary frequency and urinary "leakage" took over my life......I digress.....
As far as catheters/bags, I don't use condom caths, I am a Foley catheter user. I use leg bags with 18" extension tubing and wear it on my lower leg. I use a "sock" made by Urocare that has a pouch to fit the leg bag in it. I wear it under my pants and it's nearly impossible to tell. Even with a pair of gym shorts in the summer time it just looks like a knee brace and I'm frequently asked how I hurt my knee or how my knee is feeling.......I always say " just fine, thanks!!" I can give you Bard part number for the leg bag if it'll help, I may be able to take a picture of the Urocare "sock" and post it on here when I get home from work in a couple days and the wife catheterizes me..... that thing is great, I love it!!

Too much heat on the testes from the diapers will reduce your sperm count. :( If you cannot tolerate the catheter, at least take off the diaper and set on an absorbent pad for an hour a day to let things cool down. That often is recommended for men who do not wear diapers and have a low sperm count.

Good luck! (and have fun) :D

I don't know too much about how wearing diapers will or can affect sperm count. I will say this. When my wife and I were trying to get pregnant, we were recomended a very good book that we read and helped us understand much of what was going on with her body. After some studying we figured out what we needed to do and Bamo we had kid on the way. The name of the book is Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It covers everything a woman needs to know about her body from puberty to menopause and in between. I recommend it highly. Here is a link to it.

Thank you all for your answers!

I have ordered geewhiz condom catheters and hope they will work out. I guess I will wear a cheap pull up till I get it figured out  Will keep you all updated and will definitely read that book.

wonder if a penile clamp would help? I tried one a long time ago, but could not get over the feel of it.

Me and my wife are starting to work on our second. I've been full time diapers for about six months now. My first is almost three. I'm not sure if diapers are having an affect at this point. For my first baby we had intercourse every other day between day 10 and 21. That seemed to work in two months. I'm not expecting things to be different this time through. I don't think diapers will affect your sperm count. Your sperm really does not touch the diaper. I'm not sure if there is much evidence of heating effecting your count. Depending on what causes your incontinence. That may be causing some difficulties.

There is in fact a lot of evidence of heat effecting sperm count. It's actually the very reason testicles aren't internal.
