My son is nearly 2 years old. I'm generally the one to get up with him in the morning, or to get up when he wakes up at night, to put him back down.

I'm a bedwetter, and wear cloth at night, so it's pretty noticeable. My son has suddenly started to notice my diaper in the morning before I change. He also wears cloth diapers, so it's an easy connection for him to make I suppose.

In any case, I'm starting to think about how to handle this in the future. I'm not sure if this will be confusing when he starts potty training. I'm sure that when he gets older, he'll have questions. I'm not worried about answering the questions, but I also know that young kids don't really have much in the way of sharing boundaries. I can't imagine trying to hide the diapers for the next several years, especially since they often don't dry completely in the drier, and I hang them on a drying rack.

Anyone whom has had to deal with wearing diapers while they had young children care to share experiences or advice?

I've been wearing diapers for the entire 6 years of my daughter's life. I tried to be discrete and not let her know. She knows. There isn't much more I can do to hide it. She is good with it though. She has asked about them (I wear disposables now that we are in an apartment.) She knows the boxes contain "my underwear". And that is all that is said about it. Kids are better at this than we give them credit for.

As far as the potty training goes, I don't think we had much trouble with that. She started using the potty when she was ready and hasn't gone back since. I don't know if she knows that daddy has trouble with getting to the potty or not. We don't really talk about it. We just live with it.

My boys are aged 4 1/2 and 3. This all started to become a problem after my 4 1/2 year-old son was potty trained so no problems there. We are trying to potty train my three-year-old at the present time and so that is a concern of ours. Initially my wife made a very big deal about making sure I cover up to ensure that the boys did not see anything. She was emphatic that she did not want the boys seeing me in a diaper and possibly repeating or talking about it in front of any of our family members and/or friends. One time when the four of us were sharing a hotel room, there was not much that I could do about hiding it. So when the inevitable questions came because we were sharing tight quarters, instead of calling it a diaper in front of them. when they asked me about it, I called it a "big boy pad" they had already seen my leg bags and bedside bags for my Foley catheters and when they asked about those we told him that daddy was having trouble peeing. So they were already well aware that I was having problems with peeing and bladder type issues even though they don't quite understand the significance of it all. So the "big boy pad" thing seem to work very well. Furthermore that satisfied the wife. She was happy with that description and I have not heard one word about being seen by the children in a diaper and a T-shirt. She used to always yell at me to go cover-up, I haven't heard that phrase in ages now. One funny story that came out of all of this is when we went to see my wife's grandmother while she was terminally ill in the hospital. All the family was gathered around waiting to watch my wife's grandma make the journey to the other side, The kids pointed out "hey daddy look!! Mimi has a Pee thing just like yours!!!" they were pointing at the Foley catheter bag hanging at the bedside......everybody got a kick out of that. All of her family is aware of my problems. She has eve told her mother and sister that I wear "depends" (I do wear them to work) but wear a diaper at home. To anybody not in the know, though, "depends" are adult diapers. To us that ARE in the know they are just pull-ups. Anyway.....good luck with your kids
