Hello friends,

As you all know, I deal with urinary incontinence that seems to be stubborn, and Its possible the direct cause is constipation. Well, despite the constipation possibly causing fecal issues as well, for the most part I don't have that problem. However, last night was a different story. In a way, you could call this functional fecal incontinence, because I was physically unable to get my pants down in order to use the toilet to do no 2. Let me explain:

I was getting ready for work last night, taping on a Wellness brief for extended wear, only i mess up the taping on th right side..i put the top tape way down low.. and had to un tape it and reapply it.. thankfully Wellness's landing zone made it a cinch to do this.. so the diaper's on a few minutes later. Since the tapes looked like they might peel back, i thought the prudent thing to do would be to do supplemental taping with masking tape..no big deal, right? I'd just use the brief if i had to urinate, and if i had to poop.. id wait till i got home and cut off the diaper and sit on the toilet..
Well, we all know murphy's law.. long story short.. I'm at work cleanign the bathrooms, and its about 15 or 20 minutes until I can clock out and go for my lunch break. I suddenly get an urge to poop.. and its a big one.. I'm thinking, oh great.. this is not good.. theres no way I can take off this brief while i'm working..i went to the stall and tried to pull it down..and I coudlnt.. and its one of those situations where I really had to go... so.. yes, I ended up...loading the diaper.. Talk about a ROYAL embarassment! Luckily, i only had to endure it for 15 minutes or so, and then i had drive home... and I don't think anyone was the wiser.. although I could smell it..

I guess the whole reason why im posting this is to give ideas on how to deal with cleanup for those new to bowel incontinence, or for those who suffer from it on a regular basis.. and to say how glad I am that i dont often have this problem..

Anyway, how i dealt with it is this: I took out everyttihng that was on the floor in the bathroom.. rug, clothes, etc, to make sure nothing would possibly get stool on it... then I stripped down to the diaper.. and then laid out underpads on my bathroom floor to catch any possible escapes.. then taking it off slowly.. I laid it on the floor.. and I wiped off as much as i could with toilet paper before I got in the bathtub... yes, it may be common sense to those of you who often deal with bowel incon..but if someone was urine incon only like me..and had a situation like this where they taped the diaper on tighter just in case, and then had to deal with unexpecteldy having to poop.. they may not know how to deal. I actually have had very infrequent bowel accidents over the years.. and through trial and error.. i came up with this method.. it worked for me.. cleanup of the floor and tub and toilet seat was minimal..and the only casulty was a roll of toilet paper..

I hope this methodology is useful to someone somewhere somehow.. hopefully I won't need to use it again.. talk about doubly embarassing.. loading you diaper any where is embarasisng enough..but at work??? My only saving grace is that it was so close to lunch time... I learned my lesson.. I will either make sure my bowels are empty before i supplemental tape.. or willl try to be more careful when I apply the next brief..

let me just add that usually I am able to get most briefs i wear down in order to use the toilet.. so this doesnt happen very often...

Peace out!

Geek,

I don't envy you having to deal with a sudden bowel accident while at work. It seems that you did pretty well for someone who is not normally bowel incontinent and accustomed to handling such accidents.

I would note the desirability of always ensuring that the fecal void is absolutely completed while still wearing the diaper, to ensure that one last spasm does not soil the clean diaper while putting it on, and, perhaps, clothing.

At home, I tend to change and clean up while standing in the bathtub. As toilet paper tends to stick to the feces and also fall apart, I first use incontinence wipes which do a better job of cleaning and don't disintegrate, and then wash with a wash cloth. Even when out of the house I always have wipes and disposal bags with me to make cleanup faster and neater.

By the way, I agree with you that the Wellness diaper is great for extended wear. Also, I find that its high standing leak guards do an excellent job at containing bowel accidents and preventing leaks.
