I have a question for our pet owners out there. We just got a new puppy and I was wondering if pets may be prone to smelling our incontince issues and reacting in a negative way? Will the dog have a tendency to always have it's nose in my crotch smelling? If I let him sit in my lap, will he smell the urine and think it is OK to wet on top of my lap? Last question is I have a recliner that I have leaked in a few times. Will he smell that and think its OK to wet in that chair? Thanks ahead of time. Rope. |

Wow. Good questions. I never thought of those before. I have a cat and don't have any problem with it. I don't think the urine from humans and the urine from animals have the same scent. I don't think it will be a huge problem but I'm not sure. |

My anecdotal experience say theses a correlation with my youngest dog. She's house trained, mostly, but also a pug, which take longer than most dogs to house train. She's gotten into the trash before and tor up a few diapers. When she breaks house training and pees on something in the house it's always an item associated with me; sheets, pants, towels and so on. Never pees on anything associated with my wife, just me. I think it's also dog dependent. We have 2 other pugs that are older and completely house trained and never pee on my stuff. Other dogs I'm around pay no attention to me. So I'd just see how the puppy reacts to you. Once thing I found that greatly helps is to invest in a good set of enzyme cleaners. I typical get the Nature's Miracle stuff. A carpet version to clean up after any dog accident and a laundry version for any of my cloying. |

Rope, I've been incontinent and have had dogs for many years. I've never encountered the problem you fear. So relax and enjoy your puppy. |

All reasonable sized dogs smell crotches - it's what they do! My daughters are particularly prone to this! However as to what they smell - I imagine it is the small of the person concerned. Dogs have a very good sense of smell; far better than ours; so can manage to pick up scents we never can. I would think that dog and animal urine would smell quite quite a bit different to a dog. Don't worry about it - the dog will learn, eventually! |

Never had an issue with any f my cats, or my brother's dogs... may be animal particular if they are more sensitive to any odors? Puffy |

I guess I am the only unlucky one.... I had two cats and I am not sure if it was one or both of them that thought it would be cute to pee on my bed...particularly around where the bedpad was. They would never pee outside of their litterbox except there. I always thought at the time it was because they could smell the diaper and me, thinking "Oh hey, it's cool to pee here..." I had to give the cats to my brother when I got married (wife had severe allergies) so I don't know if that was normative or not.... but I do know it ruined an expensive comforter... nothing gets that stink out. |

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and experiences. I think I will be OK with the puppy. He is a pretty smart little guy. If it were a cat, I would be more worried. We had one that I think it was his way of telling me he was not happy not being the alpha of the house. He would pee in my office chair and my side of the couch. It latter got him from being an inside cat, to an outside cat. Now all this was way before my incontince issues. If I see our little guy making a mess where he is not suppose to and also focusing on where only I sit, I'll post and let others know. Thanks again. My cat seems to only like my bed and chair for one thing... Keeping me from having them... He's indoor/outdoor, and we never have any issues of him doing anything inside. He's a pretty good cat, even if he does have a strange attitude towards stealing my bed and chair....LOL |
