Maybe my skin isnt used to wearing regular underwear? Sociologygeek, You and I both are doing the Kegel exercises with some success, although I am doing them for sphincter control for bowel incontinence. Interesting re the rashes - we seem to be having similar problems. Although my bladder incontinence still seems to be in remission since my recent back surgery, I continue to be bowel incontinent. I have had a spate of pre-rash irritation and small rashes in the groin area and lower scrotum. Although recently I have gone through a most unusual and bad (for me) period of bowel accidents (5 bowel accidents during 6 days), normally I stay dry except for perspiration build-up in the diaper. Even during the normal days when I do not have a bowel accident I wear three premium diapers changed at morning, mid-afternoon, and night, one of which will be breathable. I wash thoroughly at each diaper change and apply either generous amounts powder or a barrier such as Equate Diaper Rash Relief (40% zinc oxide) or Balmex (11% zinc oxide). I don't know what else to do. The rash or irritation usually clears up after a few days, so I do not think it is a fungal infection. However, it then often recurs. For causes, I normally tape my plastic-backed diapers very snugly to preclude fecal leaks and odor. I tend to perspire in the crotch area a fair amount. Could it be that I am not providing enough ventilation to the diaper area? Since I have begun wearing a breathable diaper at least once a day while at home it seems to help. Thoughts or suggestions from anyone? |

JD, I take 1/2 tablet of Nullo with each meal. This goes a long way to relieving my fears of odor following a bowel accident. This makes breathable protection more usable, and, with added air circulation, I have less rash. It isn't a cure, but it helps. |

Patrick, I could not agree with you more about Nullo for odor reduction. I experimented with several similar products and found that, for me, Nullo worked the best. I particularly valued Nullo when we were on a long cruise and going on shore excursions which took us in a group away from the boat for up to 12 hours. On the down side, Nullo (and its competitors) tend to be constipating. Combined with the post-surgery constipating effects of my opioid pain meds the total effect became too much. I have had to drop the routine use of Nullo for a while. I did not try taking ½ a tablet. That might have worked. --John |
