I had a significant diaper leak two nights ago, and found the bedding to be wet through to the mattress, despite the waterproof mattress cover we keep on the bed. It seems to have a lot of pin holes in it.

This morning I had an epiphany. Cats. My wife things that it good to have cats sleep on the bed, despite my protests. They sleep on the other side of my wife, because she let's them; and if I get up in the middle of the night or the morning with our son, when I come back into the bedroom there is often one or both cats lounging on my side. When they see me they scatter, because I'll smack them for being where they aren't supposed to be.

The pin holes are most probably claw marks. I'm irritated.

Spartan,
You might consider purchasing a large, washable bedpad, to fit under the vinyl mattress cover. Good luck.

better still, put the large washable bed pad on top of the sheet and sleep directly on it like I do. Leaks are immediately absorbed without anything getting on bedding at all.

Oh, and put the cats out at night! :D

Two more options. First a mattress cover may help. Second option if trade the cats for a dog(or a fish).

No, don't trade the cats for anything - they are the best sort of pet. They look after themselves are are only around when they want to be. Keep the cats but keep them off the bed and out of the bedroom.

Generously spread catnip on her side of the bed, and that should solve the cats on your side issue.

We have as many dogs as cats, and other pets as well. The cats are indoor only cats, they don't get put out. We also sleep with the bedroom door open most nights to get cross ventilation from open windows.

I just don't believe in cats on the furniture, but my wife only helps me enforce the no cats on tables and counters rule, so that's the only rule the cats obey. I've given up about couches and chairs, but the cats know they aren't supposed to get on beds, so they sneak about it.

and rope, we do have a mattress cover/pad it has a nonwoven waterproof layer that used to be waterproof. Now we need a new one. Perhaps having to buy another will help me convince my wife that cats don't belong on beds.

Sorry spartan,

I should have been more clear. I meant water proof mattress cover over the mattress AND THEN a soft type mattress pad over that. You know, the kind that people get to make their beds softer and to be alble to wash it. This might be thick enough to keep the cats claws from making it to the plastic cover. Does that make better sense ?

I got ya now.

The cover actually is padded, but perhaps I need something even thicker over the top. I just feel like the whole situation is needless, and irritating.
