Hello. Nice to meet you all. I've been lurking here for a few days reading.

A little bit about myself. I'm 35 year old male, and I've had incon issues off and on for several years after I had a low back injury largely as result of my own foolishness. More recently I've had another "flare up" and had to reveal the problem to my fiance who has been very understanding and supportive of me.

My story so far. I hurt my lower back when I thought it would be a swift idea to take a four foot jump from a rock ledge to a sand pile while carrying a jackhammer. Idiotically I thought the sand was soft enough to break my fall and instead I got a VERY sore tailbone and jarred feeling in my lower back. Everything seemed normal until I woke up the next day in agony and discovered that my legs were not functioning. I literally had to drag myself to the kitchen with only my arms and had to have my step-brother haul me to the hospital. Unfortunately for me, I had not filled out the workers comp paperwork the previous day because the office was closed and my boss didn't have a key to get me the forms. At the hospital they didn't do much of anything because by the time I got there feeling was restored to my legs and I could walk. Just barely. They gave me a shot of tramadol and naproxen in the derriere and sent me on my way.

I visited my GP two days later, and he wanted to do an MRI on my back because I still had weakness in my knees. The workers comp insurance wouldn't pay for it, and I was broke, and couldn't have it done. He gave me a script for vicodin and sent me on my way. A few weeks later I started to lose control of my bladder, humiliated and frustrated with the lack of being able to get proper treatment, I used horrible pharmacy diapers to manage my growing incontinence problem. About a month after that I found a chiropractor that was able to put things back into line with my low back and my incontinence came to an end about a week later.

Fast forward to last week. I have a different GP now on a different health plan. I went to him about two months ago for a nagging bronchitis issue, and he recommended that I should probably take antibiotics and quit smoking. He gave my sulfa drugs, which nearly killed me due to a severe allergic reaction. And a script for wellbutrin for smoking cessation. I've been on the wellbutrin for a little over two months, and last week I started having a problem with needing to urinate suddenly. That started on a Monday, and by that Saturday I would simply get the urge to urinate and I would just go wherever I was, no stopping it. Now I'm back to square one like I was a couple of years ago, and this afternoon I'll be going to the doc again to figure out why the floodgates have opened once again.

Myself, i was deailing wit moderate to heavy incon between 2008 and 2010, only to become dry finally by dec of 2009/jan 2010, back in underwear for 4 years until about 6 weeks ago, i started having wetting accidents agian. Not a simple postvoid dribble, but full on SPURTS.. the worst thing was i was at work, and while i could have bought proteciton at hte store i work at..no way was in going to..way too embarassed.. anyway, long story short.. im back in protection 24/7 with more or less the level of incon i had 4 years ago... I have an appointment set up to do biofeedback again on the 14th of July..hopefully that helps.. so looking forward to regular underwear again.. one can hope, right??

Heya,

Yeah. I don't know what to make of it. If it's the medications I'm taking or if it's my back acting up again. And yeah it's pretty much back to diapers. I learned my lesson that Depends are anything but dependable. When my back was messed up the first time, I got my hands on Tranquility ATN's and they did the job marvelously. Thankfully I still had some left over because I would have been SOL when this started acting up again.

The real challenge was telling my fiance. I'm fine explaining it to doctors and the like, but it was a really awkward conversation telling her that I was peeing my pants and that it wasn't the first time.

Welcome aboard Lorcia! I am sure it would be much better if you didn't have the need to research and register on forums like this, but we make a great sounding board, with years of info under our collective belts. Hope you can get some answers, and that your fiancé is supportive of you in your time of need, :) Puffy

Well it's not a UTI. My prostate is slightly enlarged but doc says it shouldn't be causing me problems. He wants to do an ultrasound of my bladder to see if it's completely emptying. If that turns up nothing I'm getting sent to see a urologist.

Urodynamics tests... hooray for me.

Welcome,

I think we have all done one of those things that we look back on and say, "Why... why did I think that would be a good idea..."

I pray you are able to get answers and help for your issues, both here and at the urologist. I am glad your partner is supportive and you will find a lot of support here as well :)

Had an appointment last week to discuss my current issues. I have an appointment with a urologist tomorrow to do minor surgery on my nether regions.

So last Friday I go in and start explaining my symptoms to my GP which led to some unexpected tests. After a prostate exam he discovered that my prostate is enlarged, which is not a good thing because it got me thinking that I had the big "C". It was then strongly advised that I have an ultrasound of my peculiars to ascertain as to why a 35 year old male has an enlarged prostate. Having your bladder and prostate examined by ultrasound was not a terribly comfortable experience that I care to repeat. After that was said and done, the technician had me wait while she went to go get another more senior technician to "have a look at something". This ratcheted up my "oh god it's cancer" paranoia. Doctor came in and they went back through the motions to find this curiosity they discovered between my legs. This doctor looked at me and said that he wanted to take an immediate biopsy of a "growth" that is wedged between my prostate and bladder, right where the sphincter to the bladder meets the urethra.

0_0

So I get myself cleaned up and they tell me to go to another part of the hospital where they have an open procedure room. Valium is a wonderful thing. So they biopsy this oddity, and it turns out that it's some kind of benign cyst.

Basically the long and the short of it is that my bladder isn't completely draining thus leading to the urge/overflow incontinence because this cyst thing is perched in just the right spot I guess.

So I get to go see the urologist tomorrow and have the little bastard removed. Hopefully that takes care of the incontinence situation, but it doesn't answer the enlarged prostate thing. Hopefully it takes care of both. So for the next couple of weeks I get to hang from the pipes while I pee because my bladder is now producing molten lava instead of urine.

Lorcia,

Although I did not have a prostate cyst, I have had a prostate biopsy. Anybody who thinks a prostate biopsy for incontinence is fun had better be in a safe place in the next county when he says it. Peeing lava is an excellent description. I hope your surgery, if it is necessary, will resolve your issues. If not, welcome to the land of leakers.
