I have decided to decline a prescription for detrol la from my urologist due to its side effects. I hope I have made the right decision. I have bladder retention with 200 plus ml. post void along with bladder diverticulum, and glaucoma. I tried vesicare a while back and really did not like the side effects...nausea, dizziness, only a couple of voids a day. I believe it was prescribed because of my control issues. However, I think I will manage with diapers when necessary rather then take the chances with detrol. If anyone has had experiences with detrol, I would appreciate knowing. Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum dp66, I am in the same position as you in regards to medications, I declined trying any of them due to the side edffects, but I am sure there are others here that can let you know how they worked or did not work for them. Retention is certainly nothing to mess with, hope you find some resolutions for it, Puffy

I tried Vesicare and the only side effect I got was solidity in the bowels. I couldn't manage that all the time so I have stopped taking them. My retention makes it up to 500ml sometimes and I have to use a catheter to fully empty. The Vesicare does buy me more time before voiding so I will probably use it when travelling or if flying but not normally.
