I was wondering if anybody has a super pubic catheter put in and how is it doing? My Urologist mentioned it for me and I don't know? |

No probs, I've had them before and I expect to have to have one again some time. In the UK a supra-pubic catheter is inserted in theatre under general anaesthetic. Usually, the surgeon with use a cystoscope to view and fill the bladder before making and incision in the abdomen wall and inserting the catheter. I gather it takes very little time - maybe 15 mins - but have to real idea as I have been asleep at the important moment. |

I think I may go with it cause I don't want any infections from the Foley inserted into my urethra and the pain that goes with it. At least if I change my mine it heals itself. I have Neuropathy and it's getting worse. I have very little feel in my bladder. I have over flow incontinence and it is no fun at all. Somebody posted that if I have it put in ,I can still have sex. Since my prostate was removed along with the nerves I am limp. |

I'm sure the supra-pubic will be the best answer for you but don't forget to ask about a catheter valve which allows you to leave drainage bags off and just empty into the loo every so often. If you are holding 500ml then you can probably leave it 4 hours before draining. As to limpness, ask the urologist. There is an injection one can use to gain erections - injected into the penis with the finest needle you have ever seen. Yes, I know, that sounds painful but really it isn't and it does allow for some 'activity'. Since my Multiple Sclerosis is busy taking feeling and function and following a bladder operation 13 years ago I have lost function and am just limp. The injections are the only thing that helps so do ask. |
