Hi everyone, I have come to learn that diapers are expensive and was thinking about something. A sight like this ought to start a swap and sell section. We all have ordered diapers on line or bought them at stores that we really didn't care for. What ever the reason, sizing fit, absorbancy, whatever. I know when I have in the past I just pushed them to the back and bought something else and than there they sat just a waste of money. Well with a swap and sell on a forum like this one we could put them on there for others to buy for a good deal? :D

Many ppl here buy off of Craigslist, and eBay. The cost of shipping disposable items is NOT cheap, but for those that sell these type of items as a business have a commercial shipping acct. with UPS, and/or Fedex which cost about half as much as it would cost anyone else that does not have a commercial shipping acct.

If you served in the US military and have a honorable discharge you are eligible to receive medical benefits from the Veterans Affairs (VA). There are several vets here in this forum that receive benefits from the VA and that includes meds, and diapers.

I second Johnstone. Plus, I don't think Schoppy would want us using his site to sell products. As Johnstone said, use Ebay or Craigslist to sell your un-needed supplies. I worked supply for the Marines and shipping large, heavy items is expensive. When I come across diapers that I don't need or cant use, I donate them to nursing homes in my area. Those folks can use quality items because all they get are Wings products.

You people that talk about diapers being so $$$ I've said it before I'll say it again. You can get some screaming deals on eBay. You don't find them everyday. But if you keep watching they will come. But at the same time if you don't want to go there it's less competition for me :D .............Sandy :)

Good point, Sandy! One that needs to be repeated as people forget about Ebay as a source! I've also read here or on other forums that Thrift Stores / Salvation Army stores can be a good place to get real bargain prices but the availability of diapers is never a sure thing nor is sizes....but a pot luck thing to drop into a local thrift store and see if any diapers have shown up in your size.

Unique Wellness seems to be one of those diapers people love or hate....
They are always running a special it seems, and the diaper is pretty darn good if the fit "works" for you. I get the case, shipped free, and the end cost of the diaper is about a $1.00 or just under. That allows me the luxury / convenience of using a disposable (for a break from cloth diapers) without using the costlier Abena M-4s that I normally rely on ...... and still do for serious social outings.

I have worn diapers all of my life and have probably tried every brand of disposable there is. I am still absolutley convince that cloth diapers are the most absorbant, comfrotable and inexpensive. Taking a $20.00 cloth diaper for example. It can be used something at least 100 times. That comes out to 20 cents a use. Of course you have to add plastic pants and laundry. With disposables we are filling the landfills at an alarming rate. My cloth diapers do not leak! That is huge for me.

Hi Terry,
I am totally with you and I've worn diapers all my life as well. While I was raised in cloth diapers I naturally tried disposables in my early adulthood and what was available back then was just terrible....I never had so many embarrassing wet pant incidents as I did in that era.

So, it was back to cloth because they worked...and I had to work and did not want the world to know about my private problem so I wore cloth diapers for the security but the comfort is not to be discounted...cloth can be very comfortable if worn right!

The controversy of cost and environmental concerns is interesting and has been on-going for some time. It makes for interesting reading and the bottom line seems to be "no decisive winner". Disposables have come a long way and today's diapers are very good at providing leak free security and are so much easier to wear under clothing. Their weakness seems to be overnight protection, especially if you sleep on your side....leakage out the side of the diaper is a common problem. The best of both worlds is wearing disposables by day and cloth by night; a lot of people do this.

On line you can find the arguments pro and con if you want some thought provoking articles about cloth vs disposable diaper use. Cost wise they analyze initial cost and then cost of water, heating water and detergent and wear and tear on a washing machine and cost of drying and that wear and tear on that machine. I do not believe any arguments include a cost for our labor...but our time is worth something, tho I do not mind doing my diaper laundry! Environmental impact is another heated debate....filling up landfills with disposables that take up to 500 years (by some estimates) to decompose and health issues with fecal matter left in diapers to contaminate the land fill. Laundering cloth uses a precious resource, water, which is becoming a global crisis, as you probably know. Heating the water and energy to run the machines involves some environmental impact. So on and on the arguments go.....

Obviously, the choice of what to wear is up to the individual. In my case, even with Abriform Plus, I have had daytime leaks. It is embarrasing not only to me but my wife and we both agree it is preferable for me to wear cloth with plastic pants.

I am not a big environmentalist, however I do believe in taking care of what we have. The landfill issue is very real though. As for using up water, all of the water where I live comes our of the rivers and if it is not used either evaporates or goes into the ocean. The time it take to launder diapers is not an issue for me either as I am retired. :)

I have learned that low cost and quality protection do not go hand-in-hand.

This is very true. For me I am interested in comfort, minimal diaper rash issues and superior protection
