Dear All:
I guess I have been dragging my feet about buying the PUL pants. Well, I received an email about something from BKINS and thought would get a few items, among them was the PUL pants, They are working very well. I have been using regular plastic pants so long that they feel so different, not in a bad way. Usually I only wear diapers and plastic pants for bed and use disposables during the day, but for what it is worth if a plastic pant ever made a noise, the PUL sure doesn't! That is always nice even around the house.
So thanks to all who have recomended these. I now add my Yea!
Thanks
Tom

Thanks for the review Tom, I am looking at those when it comes time to get new ones, the ones from ACD seem like they are the same thing, but more money. Glad you like them, I hear good reviews often, obviously the way to go for a coverpant, :) Puffy

I have the PUL covers and PUL pocket diapers but I still prefer vinyl plastic pants. I never get wicking from the vinyl plastic pants and tend to wet heavily. I guess 30+ years with vinyl baby pants, I guess i am set in my ways.

Hi folks!
I endorse PUL pants as the fabric pants are so different from vinyl plastic pants and even different from other fabric pants that are treated with polyurethane...usually they are noisy and they do weep a little bit, which helps some with cooling in summer heat as I've posted in the past. These new PUL fabric pant do not weep at all, tho the exterior is subject to wicking if you really get the diaper soaked. The leg and waist cuffs are turned and sewn to keep the waterproof side "out" to minimize this wicking.

I want to point out that Gary, the major maker of plastic pants under their name, and so many others, has entered the PUL pant market with a trimmer fitting pant called the Gary Active Brief and designed primarily for wear over a disposable diaper for that "just in case" extra protection. I have found the cut is adequate to wear over a light day time cloth diaper and I enjoy the comfort that seems to be unique to PUL pants.

I had purchased a pair of PUL pants several months ago but the ones I purchased (ACD) are not at all quiet. Instead they are very noisy. I like how thin the material is as well as how light weight they are but they are noisy. I wear them in my regular rotation for sleeping as the noise doesn't bother me when I'm sleeping. I do not wear them outside the house due to the noise they make. A couple sites even state that the PUL material is very noisy compared to vinyl. I even tried the PEVA pants but they are allso much noisier than is vinyl. I don't like how soon some vinyl pants wear out but they are at least very quiet to wear. I did recently purchase a couple pair of the 7mm vinyl "Tuffies" pants without the covered elastics and I like them. Still very quiet and I am hoping the 7mm vinyl lasts longer than the 4mm vinyl does.

Hi DDS,

I think there is a bit of confusion with terms here and it certainly is confusing with all the different names for materials. I think, based on your saying the pants you got are "thin....lightweight....noisy" that you are describing polyurethane pants often called urethane pants. A different plastic film from vinyl (also called polyvinylchloride or pvc), it is much stronger than vinyl so can thinner and lighter than typical vinyl pants. And it is a bit noisier than most vinyl pants. The other major advantage is resistance to oils such as found in all rash creams.

PEVA is very noisy, yes indeed. Supposedly more environmentally friendly than PVC as there is no chloride in the composition, PEVA is now the standard plastic for infants plastic pants. I don't see PEVA as a good plastic pant for us given the noise level...extremely crackly.

PUL is polyurethane laminate and is a fabric pant; heavy and quiet. On first look and feel you will likely wonder if they are actually waterproof. It is a fabric, not sure what the composition is but it's thicker than nylon and it is treated / coated with polyurethane on one side to make it waterproof. The outside of the pants, the actual fabric side, will wick wetness. If you place a few drops of water on the inside of the pants it will bead up....a few drops placed on the outside of the pants will soak in and make a wet spot on the pants. Hence the fabric is turned over at the leg and waist openings to bring the waterproof side outside to make a cuff. They are very comfortable to wear and unless you really soak your diaper, you won't have a problem with wetness wicking out onto the outside of the pants.

I want to comment on longevity and forgot to.....

Yes, the heavier vinyl such as the 7 mil in the Tuffies pants should give you longer life than the 4 mil vinyl which is often the "standard" for plastic pants.

I have experienced excellent service life (over two years) with KINS #20300V pants. They are called medium weight and are about 6 mil thick. But they are soft so they are silent to wear. I especially like the Lycra leg and waist bands which are very gentle and comfortable on the skin. And no, I do not work for KINS, I just endorse a good product when I find one!

Thanks for all help and interest this has drawn.
I agree that after so long you get "used" to the regular plastic pants and I find they have many positive advantages, so still use them 95% of the time at night.
As for Adult Cloth Diaper and Gary, I have been their customer for long time and have nothing but good to say, everything has worked out well from them.
I guess will post more later. - Everyone have great day
Tom

I have used the PUL Active Brief and so far, am pretty satisfied. My experience with vinyl is that it tears easily and the elastic frays, even with proper care and relatively light use, and when heavily soiled, it's difficult to remove odor completely with the necessary handwashing. PUL can be machine washed, which is a big point in its favor for me. It's comfortable, light, not hot, and comes in several different colors for those who like a choice so we can tell apart different sizes/brands that we may have at a glance. The one drawback for me is it doesn't come up quite as high in the back as I would prefer. I'm using the correct size, and it's actually slightly big in the front. As Joe says, it's really designed for disposables. My premium pull ons fit fine. Cloth is a bit of a tight fit in the back. I'm a relatively petite female, but I wonder if something similar to men's boxers would work for me. Do such styles exist in PUL or something else machine washable?
