Hmm. I think I need to look at these things closer.

I might get this figured out at some point.

Thanks for your help.

I've been using Seni Super Plus for several years now, and this technique works very reliably for me. These have had various need for popping up these guards. Some production runs are held down more than others, but this has worked with consistency.

1. Unfold diaper.
2. Stretch fore and aft waist bands to limits.
3. Stretch fore-right and aft-right corners and right side wet guard will pop up.
4. Repeat for left side.
Now I put it on.

This is easier for me to understand since you put it in engineer speak. I will be reading those directions in my head now every time.

That's funny you observed that certain production lots of these seem to have quality issues. I have been looking at these things alot, trying to find out what works for me. I would say overall I'm not impressed by the vast majority of products. It's partly materials, and partly the under-engineering that goes into the design. I diapered 3 kids with disposable diapers and never had the number of leaks, and quality issues that I have found with adult sizes. There should be better options than just spending money on "premium" diapers.

I don't think of it as a real quality control problem. Once I do this one set of steps, they work just fine. It's more an issue of the guards sometimes being pressed down harder than other times. Other than that, I find these better than the Quattro diapers because these don't clump up as much.
As others have concluded, cloth diapers are the best. I just need the convenience of disposables for right now.

Not sure if this is the right place for this question. Does anyone know of an absorbent diaper that wicks well? One where the entire diaper absorbs the liquid. It seems that most brands I have tried, the front of the diaper retains the majority of the urine causing the diaper to swell/bulge a a lot.

That's a pretty good question that I'd like to know as well.

I don’t think anything absorbs like cloth. Looking back in older posts, and my own experience suggests that a cloth booster, even thin one, helps spread wetness much better within the diaper than without. In fact, I wonder how a cloth booster inside a store brand diaper would work. That could be a huge cost savings if you don’t mind rinsing out and laundering a booster. Again, all of this has been discussed in length before. Because I’ve tried it with microfiber towels, I’m a believer! For me however, there’s an advantage to cloth diapers at night and in the HOT Texas summers....

I agree with Ellyn on my preference for cloth, as long as it's cotton. not polyester or another manufactured fabric. I use my ratty, old cotton diapers as stuffers for nighttime use, or other times when I expect to be forced to extend wear time.

I think I will continue to need to use disposables while out at unfamiliar places, and at work, but I have been thinking of doing a hybrid cloth/disposable for at home, and at night. The things that stop me from really trying it out are the fear of buying the wrong stuff (it's really expensive at first) and my ability to keep up with the laundry. I do all of the laundry for our family of 5, and I sometimes tire easily. I think I could get a pretty good system in place though. Since I'm doing bedding 2-3x a week sometimes maybe that would actually lessen the load. I would love to realize those cost savings, and live a leak free life I've been hearing about.

Question/s for the team: so my thought on night-proofing myself would be a cloth diaper cover over my disposable, in between the vinyl pants. Is that dumb? Are the cloth cover diapers absorbent at all? Are there ones made out of Terry cloth? (If so, i can't find them) and are there ones that are higher waisted that anyone has found? Or could I use a size larger and be OK. Biggest thing for me is a leak out of the top, or side panel. I do use boosters with a "premium" diaper.

I'm game to try out any experiments if you guys have ideas.

CityGardener:
Try adding a cotton pad inside of your nighttime diaper. Maybe try using something like a face cloth or two as a test. The cotton will absorb faster than your diaper or booster and then distribute the wetness to the diaper slowly. I would highly recommend a plastic or PUL pant over everything just in case. In the morning just rinse out the wet face cloths and hang to dry before laundering.
