Well I had Tha visit for the first time today and I have to be honest, it was no where as bad as I thought it would be. My CNA was professional and very confident in her skills and it showed. I was worried that I would have to do a lot of explaining and ask for each part of my assistance but all I had to do was tell the basics an she jumped right in there. It was all over before I had the chance to feel sorry for myself and I was so much better off after.
Now, something that may have helped was the fact that about 4 hours before the appointment the power went out and just as I was expecting her to get here, the power came back on right then so I had a good distraction immediately before she arrived. So what I am thinking at this point is maybe two weeks of needing help and I should be able to manage myself. Wish me luck and here is to a speedy recovery.

So has she helped you with everything you're going to need? Or just some? Either way, it won't be that bad! Almost all of us guys look the same under our diapers. Nothing she hasn't already seen.

Howdy Rope

Im glad to hear that your appointment with your CNA went better than you anticipated. :D
I know it can be embarrassing to have someone help change our diapers, but for a short time after surgery isnt that bad after the first time. That first appointment always sets the tone for the following ones.

Im sure that there are a few that arnt as professional as others and some might just have a bad day at times, but im real glad that the first appointment went great. :D
Im sure that having your power off for a while was a good distraction tho hehe.

I hope you get back doing push-ups real soon :)

Going pretty good. Just got back to driving three days ago and visit with the doctor said I will hopefully be back to work my mid August. Physical therapy is going well. So far I am still only working on flexibility and have not started on strangth building yet but that will be vary soon. I have been able to change my own diaper for about two weeks now. They sent a occupational therapist to help me figure out a way for me to change myself and he gave a stick with a rubber coated hook on is and I can use it to tape the left side. The right side I can do as normal with a little discomfort but the left side is still a problem.
For four weeks I had to have either my wife of a home health care nurse change my diaper for me. I can't tell you how how stressed out the thought had made me but what I learned was that people cared about me and the worse case scenario was not what would happen. As of how I can change myself but I have a short stick with a rubber coated hook on it that I can use to tap the tabs.
So the goal at this point is to get my arm stronger till I can get back to work. Between now and then I will be happy when I can wear my cloth diapers again. I'm thinking maybe Monday I'll try but I am thinking it will be near impossible to pin the sides.

Rope,

Welcome back. I'm glad to hear you are recovering well.

Please tell us more about the stick with the rubber coated hook and how you use it. I had rotator cuff surgery and had not heard of such a device (wish I had).

Hello JD,

It's kind of hard to describe how I use the stick without a picture to show the mechanics and I'm trying to think of a way to show this without it coming off like some creepy guy taking a picture of their diaper area. Here is a picture of the stick and if you still have a question, PM me and I'll do that in a more private setting.

Keep in mind, my problem is I can not reach across my body to get both hands at my left hip to tape the diaper. My right arm has the limited mobility and using he stick I can reach about 8" short of where I need to and he stick makes up the difference. Does this make sense?

Rope,

Very interesting. Thanks!

Does the device have a name or brand label on it? As the topic of one-handed diapering comes up frequently it might be very helpful to have additional information on the device and where to get it.

Glad to hear things progressing well and you can drive again. hopefully the stick does have a name and from there the company that makes it can explain how it works.

Glad to hear things are going well rope. After my last leg surgery I had to have an aid. I not only had to have them change me but I had to deal with being transgender on top. My aids were totally professional and nice. One of them was like "I change adult diapers all the time. In fact the person I see before you wears them. I didn't mind" so that made me feel better. I've been changed by nurses in the hospital a couple of times so I'm kinda used to it. Though it is sorta nerve wrecking
