See I see a 'nappy'/'diaper' to be a style of incontinence pad. There are so many different type of pads out there that I just sat 'nappy style pad' if I want to specify and 'pad' if I don't need to be specific. I think the difference is that you don't get non nappy styles of baby nappies...just nappies and pull ups! The onesie thing is a bit more confusing....because it is clearly more of an attempt to hide any references to baby stuff. 'Body stocking' just sounds like you've put your whole body in to a pair of stockings :p I do have an abena onesie in a cupboard somewhere but got a catheter before I ever used it. I will probably wear it at some point when I am well enough to go out in my chair for any length of time though because fecal pads are OK if you're not out in public, or are changing pretty quickly but I wouldn't want to risk being out and have a bowel accident but be unable to change until I got home and not be wearing something that would keep it quite 'sealed' to prevent odour, so I will probably wear nappy style pads whilst out or tena flex.

I must admit that when I did used to wear very bulky nappy style pads I never had the guts to get onesies. Instead there was lots of tucking t-shirts in, pulling underwear high, and folding the top of the pad waistband down. I think that if I didn't have PAs/carers I would have worn them but I felt embarrassed at the idea of being questioned on it. The price alsuncomfortable Oh also, when you're partially continent the idea of more clothing barriers is a concern.....oh yes now I remember.....I thofht if it leaked it would make the omesie wet and that might feel uncomfortable if it went up my back.

Each to their own on this one I guess and of course, every situation is different so in my eyes there isn't really an ideal 'one-size-fits-all' solution here. Well at least in my own personal experience anyway.

The people I've had to tell about my problem are a mixture of health professionals, family and those close to me. When I broke the news I to my Mum, I did not hold back - I told her about my day and night accidents and also deliberately used the word 'nappies.' When I last had to tell a doctor about it, I took the same approach. Same with anybody else I had to tell.

If anybody reading this is wondering why I am so specific, I will happily share the reason; anybody who is not incontinent or has little to no experience in this area may possibly enquire further if told "I have to wear pads"... i.e. "What kind of pads? You mean like nappies/ diapers?" whereas if you just come out and say it like it is, then it's job done. Medical professionals tend to use more vague terms such as 'pads' in order to protect patients' self-esteem but I have found that the more upfront you are with them about your problems, the less embarrassing it is and the less questions get asked.

And for an update to my original post, I have been to my Mums place since that night and all is well, no mention of my nappies at all. No surprises there thankfully but nice to know that even if my best efforts of concealment let me down, then all will be ok :)

Thanks for all the responses guys! Been very helpful :)

JakeJames, I find onesies really hot too and only wear them in the winter. You're not alone!!! 8)
