I have thought long and hard about this topic. I am on a complex diet/medication schedule, and I walk like a drunk, and occasionally collapse, which sometimes piques the curiosity of strangers. Nobody wants or should be expected to hear every last detail about my medical situation. However, I do feel the need to explain my behavior, at least minimally. I think folks respond more to the way we present ourselves, than they do to the precise words we use. I try not to take myself too seriously, and answer their curiosity with a grin and as few words as appropriate. I have encountered employment discrimination, which can be a sticky wicket. The trick, which I have not always pulled off, is to be honest but offer only the minimal information necessary. One of my bosses went out of his way to undermine me and render my employment situation untenable. I am glad he never knew the full extent of my medical situation; an already difficult situation could have become disastrous.
