I've just came home from dinner at my Mum's place after something pretty embarrassing happened. My Mum knows about my IC issues and my need to wear nappies but obviously this is something which is rarely brought up as there is not much point talking about it.

Anyway, I was there for a few hours, sinking into a nice comfy chair watching tv. I even fell asleep at one point as I've had a not on recently. Shortly after I woke up I was chatting to my Mum and decided that I wanted to head home. As I was about to get up, I felt a cold draft around my waist and as I instinctively went to pull down my tshirt, I felt something unusual on the tips of my fingers, followed by an unmistakably loud, plastic crinkling noise.

I quickly glanced down and to my horror, my worst fears were confirmed. I had not bothered with a belt today and as a result, the combination of my jeans sliding down and my tshirt riding up meant that a good inch of my white plastic waistband was clearly visible. I'm wearing an iD Expert Slip too, which has green raindrop images and the word maxi printed all over it. Great. Thankfully by this point, my Mum was clearing a few things from the coffee table so I was able to take a moment to hide my embarrassment before saying goodbye.

I'm just hoping that it wasn't staring her in the face all evening as I'm so tired that I barely moved once I was settled in that chair. I know that she definitely saw it, there is no way she couldn't have from that angle, but she didn't seem to have any reaction - well either that or she hid it well or just wasn't fussed as there was nobody else there and she already knows about my problem.

Anyway I'm sat in bed writing this now feeling a bit Sheepish, even though I know she won't bring it up. My Mum is not one to hold back from speaking her mind, that I am sure of!

Has this sort of thing happened to anyone else before?

Jake,

Particularly if not wearing a belt, you should be wearing a onesie. It both will prevent such "wardrobe malfunctions" and also support a sagging diaper! :D

On the subject of onesies, I bought a one but find it difficult fastening it up with my limited hand movement.

Accidents will happen to the best of us. The most we can do is to work to improve our management skills, to pay attention to our clothing, our protection, the fluid we have consumed, and our surroundings. I do not own a onesie, which makes clothing more of an issue for me than it would be if I wore one. Other than the expense, I have enough bowel difficulties that a onesie would add significant time to washing and changing. Good luck. Be glad that your waistband was at fault, not an all-out pants soaking accident.

I wouldn't worry about it to much. It was someone that already knows, and cares about you. Would be worse if it was an acquaintance or coworker, whom didn't know.

Jake, I echo Patrick's ending comment. I was concerned that you might have wet the furniture. I also agree with MSUSpartan that since your Mom already knew about your incon, she likely wasn't taken by surprise or weirded out. Moms are (generally) a safe place to fall anyway. If an embarrassment had to happen, it happened in the best possible way.

Thanks for your support guys! I really appreciate your kind words and advice. I do have a onesie, but I rarely wear it as it makes me really, really hot and sweaty. It also makes me feel like a kid but then again, so do my nappies.

I'm normally very careful with my choice of clothing and this barely ever happens (well at least to the best of my knowledge!), but I think tonight seeing as it is quite cold, I'll wear the onesie.

Does anyone else have the same problem with getting too hot in onesies?

And PB&J32, this is true ha! Even more so now! It's one thing excusing myself to go to the disabled toilets in an airport to put my nappy on just before a flight, but a thing to actually have the thing on display whilst talking away and not even knowing! Oh well - things can always be worse eh?

I understand where you are coming from thinking of it like a child's garment. Think we all make such distinctions. Kind of like when I was a child, my aunt gave me a wallet that had a snap band at the end. I felt it look like a girl's wallet and cut it off. Think of it with another name. Years ago some women's tops were made similarly and they referred to them as body shirts. I am trying to come to the conclusion that I should do what ever is best to deal with the situation.
