Hi everyone,

I just want to introduce myself. I'm a 27yo dude relatively new to daytime urinary incontinence. i'm an otherwise active and athletic guy living in New York City and I guess I'm just looking to be able to connect with other folks in a similar position as me and this is probably a good place to start. Any other young folks in the NYC area?

Thanks all.

Hey sydneydude84, welcome aboard... sorry to say I am on the West Coast, not too close to NY, but feel free to ask any questions you may have, there are many people on here with excellent know-how tips on dealing with incontinence. It is tough to deal with at 27, but certainly is manageable without everyone around you knowing you even have a problem in that department! and you certainly are not alone with dealing with it as a young male either... I was in my mid 20's too when I started having control problems, Puffy :)

Hi

This is my first post here, so I guess it is my introduction. I am a bit older than 27 (well, twenty years older), but I am still an active guy, with plenty of acquaintances older and younger. I also have bladder problems and have to deal with wearing diapers day and night. I try not to let them inhibit me or my activities, but it still gets kind of lonely knowing that this is something I can't really talk to my friends about. A couple of them do know, mind you, but there is still too much shame associated with diapers to really be upfront about it. In consequence, I sometimes feel like I have to hide a part of me from my friends, and that, in turn, leads to feelings of loneliness. I guess I'm just rambling incoherently, but just wanted to say hi.

Hello Dhani, welcome to the Forum... :D you are not at all rambling, I can totally relate to your feelings in what you wrote. Even though I am not in them 24/7, I feel ashmed also that I have to hide it from people and even family, as they really wouldn't be able to comprehend what it is like having unreliable plumbing and need to wear something to do any activities that they never give a second thought too... I also try to stay as active as I can, and wear when I have to in order to get out and not worry about the  "what if's"... Puffy

I began dealing with bladder incontinence when I was 19, so I understand how the challenges are different at different ages and stages. The first thing is that it gets easier, practically and emotionally. Your comfort zone expands until things that were once panic inducing become nothing bothersome at all.
For every person the jouney is different physically and emotionally, but I think it's safe to say that the more active you are the more there is to learn, and faster! Along those same lines I think that it's more difficult generally for younger people because they usually dont have as well developed a sense of self and the general confidence to face something that so totally stikes at ones self image. (Am I rambling yet? Good!)

Anyway glad you found us, and hope we're able to help.

Ain't that the truth. Even friends and family who know and try to be understanding really don't understand. I had to ask my wife to please stop asking me if I have to go the bathroom everytime we leave the house or some other place. I know when I have to go or not.

In my case I have constant dripping, and sometimes it just starts to flow even when the urge to go is very slight. I had an incident in my eye doctor's office about three months ago where it just started to flow without warning. I was able to stop it in a second or so but there was a sizable wet spot on the front of my shorts. I felt I had to explain to the doctor (as you see I had a little accident here...) and had to walk through the waiting room like that out to my car. My wife's comment when I got home - Why didn't you just go before you went into his office?

People think we just have to go so bad we can't hold it, and wonder why we didn't just stop at a gas station. They don't understand it just doesn't always work like that.
