Much younger worker, called me a couple nights ago at work (I work 4:00 to midnight, he works days). Wanted to know how I got along with diapers. Shrugged it off as he was drunk as usual.
But he called back tonight an apologized for the question, but still wanted answers. Seems he has bouts of diarrhea and needs info. Anyway I told him I'd be glad to talk to him but in person and in private rather than over the phone from the front desk at work!
I've never made any big thing about diapers and I assume everyone knows by now anyway.
Just kind of surprised me with an out of the blue question like that!!

I understand your desire to help, but I wouldn't be so fast just yet. The first thing this guy needs to know is what is causing his problem so he needs go see a doc before he goes to far. If what he is saying is true, he may need some type of protection until he can get in to see a doc and figure out what's causing his problem. It might, and probably will take some time to do some tests and sort this out so he will probably need to use protection for a while longer. The thing that strikes me as being odd is it appears based on your story this guy appears to be more interested in your opinion of diapers right now and not the cause of hos problem and instead of ask you about diapers, he should be asking for a recommendation to his medical problem I'm sure he will need to see his primary care doc before he is sent to any other doc's as a referral but it just seems a little odd that his priority is diapers, and not solving his medical problem. Solve the medical problem and he won't need diapers. Did he even say if has an appt to see a doc yet? Problem not would be my guess.

I understand his need for protection, but unless the underlying problem is addressed all you can do is suggest some different types of diapers he can try for protection. There are a million and one possible causes to his bowel problem and if this guy is serious I almost have to wonder why he called you, and not his doctor? I would recommend you proceed with caution and tell him to go see a his doctor before you become to helpful making suggestions. Either a lot has been left out of the story, or the story lacks a ring of truth to it. More information is needed to know which it is to be certain. Right now, I would say the story lacks a ring of truth,,,,something just isn't right about this short story. Hope this helps.

Sorry, but it's the truth, happened just as I posted.

And it's "answers" like yours that keep new people from asking questions and getting correct answers.

I don't know, if I hade known someone who used adult diapers when it all started for me, I may have asked them in a similar fashion... not the easiest thing to talk to someone about, but if that someone used them to begin with, it would make it easier to talk I would think, as long as that user was not embarrassed that others around him knew... Would be much better then going into it totally blind as to what is out there for products besides the bottom end stuff in most pharmacies (no pun intended  ) Puffy

I know three people that are my friends that are incontinent all for different reasons.
Most don’t talk about it and I never bring it up. Two use catheters one uses diapers and external catheters.

Isn’t it a little weird someone from work calls you out of the blue asking you how you like wearing diapers.

How much younger is he?

It probably is nothing but that would bother me some.

I am willing to help anyone that needs it I make no bones about my incontinence but few of my friends know or have ever asked.

I have no choice my doctor has me using a Foley catheter 24/7 and have for three years it is so easy to hide under clothing no one knows it is there.

It might be I getting old but be careful in giving someone younger info you may not want to get out.

What makes you assume he didn't? As we all know doctors tend to focus on medical solutions regardless of if they are the best solution. It only makes sense for some exploring all his options to speak to some one who does something else.
In any event I would advise him to check out this site. The joint info from so many posts are comprehensive. While I personaly don't post often it isn't because the thought doesn't occur to me. It is because I almost always found some one already wrote what I has to say.

As a sufferer of frequent diarrhea, I can sympathize with this caller. Diapers have saved my clothing and furniture and sanity many times. Bowel incontinence can happen to people who suffer from IBS and other GI disorders. So its not uncommon. And if I was this caller and occasionally leaking stool on myself and knew of someone who wore diapers for incontinence, I just might call them up and ask them for advice, especially if I were new to the world of protective garments. But I would be hesitant to give out alot of information because its embarassing. So this whole story is plausible.

If I were the guy receiving the phone call, I think I would feel that it was none of my business what this guys problem was. I could recommend seeing a doctor and offer some advice on some absorbent products and where to find them.

I change in public places and until recently, held a job. I am sure my coworkers have suspected i'm incontinent. Its really hard to hide when you work that close to people. But no one has ever asked. If someone did ask about what I use, I would probably tell them whats up.

It has been hinted that this mystery caller may have alterior motives for wearing diapers. My thought is, so what if he does. Its none of my business what his reasoning is for wearing diapers. I would just simply give my opinion.
