Hello, everyone

Sometime this next year I am going to be doing some teaching and speaking in some churches. I've been in front of people before but back then I wasn't wearing diapers. How does someone who wears diapers do public speaking? How do you hide it when several hundred or a thousand or more people are looking at you?

* Do I wear a thin diaper to avoid a bulge, and risk a leak?

* Or do I wear a thick diaper, like Secure Personal or Abena, and risk a bulge up front as the diaper gets wetter?

Also, my bowels are as trigger-happy as my bladder. I don't always get a lot of warning. There is a good possibility of having a release if I'm in a long service of two or more hours and can't leave to a bathroom. What do I do if I'm in front of everyone and I feel it coming? Say "Uh, wait a minute. Be right back!" and leave a crowd of people going "Huh???" :?

And let's say a bowel movement comes and I'm not able to control it. What do I do then? Their pastor is right there and the choir is behind me. Some one is going to smell something!

I would really like to hear your advice. Thanks!

Kendal

Kendal: My answer would be "it depends" (pun intended).

I do a fair amount of public speaking. Sometimes I know I will be in and out of whatever speaking thing I have to do; no lingering about. So for those days, something thin works (like Abena M1 or M2; even EuroBrief although they can bulk up when they collect fluids). The key here is that I know I can do a change in short order if things get full up.

If I don't know how long I might before I can schedule a pit stop, then I go for the gold (like the Abena M4s; SecurePlus, etc.) so that I don't have any accidents. Been there and done that and I don't want to repeat it (even though I just did last week! )!

As for the bowels: I don't have experience in that department, so I can't comment there.

Hope this helps!

Never been bowel incontinent but a suggestion: could you use a Fleet or some other edema (I think that is what they are called) to make sure your bowels are empty before going to a speaking engagement?

I think Piddlefree's suggestion of an enema makes the best sense for that occasion to minimize or eliminate the potential that your bowels will release during your talk.

If you do not wish to do that, or have a bowl movement anyway, I voted like two others to get go on with the speech. The smell may or may not be a big factor....that is an unknown. By all means use a deodorant in the diaper.....best I've come across is Fresh Again. Said to overcome fecal odor, I can't say....I use it to prevent urine odor as I wear cloth diapers for extended times.

I'd think that if odor made its way into the room, most would figure someone "cut a silent fart".....and I'd suggest leaving as soon as practical after your speech, without calling attention to yourself. That maybe hard to do, keep a casual attitude as you work toward the exit to disengage from the social setting. Perhaps a "I hate to run but I've got this killer headache and need to go crash at home....sorry...."

I can't add too much about diapers being noticed...there have been numerous threads on this subject. The major finding has been no one notices....the wearer is overly sensitive and perceives that "everyone" can see the bulge. Wear a good diaper! Your peace of mind knowing there will be no accident will outweigh the worry of anyone noticing.

If you wear a thin diaper and leak, someone will notice for sure!

If you wear a thick diaper, you won't leak so no one will notice a leak and chances are great that no one will notice any bulge, either....and ofcourse wear clothing to hide the bulkiness.....and stop worrying!

If your body has little or no bowel control what would hold the plug in? Just a random thought....

Seriously, Coloplast make some anal plugs which some people find work quite well. They expand once inserted and a small piece of tape hangs down to withdraw them. Try the Coloplast website in your own country.

Start using Nullo stool deodorizer. It works from the inside out. You swallow the pill and when the "poop" comes out, it doesn't smell  . It takes some time to start working, unless you start taking laxatives too.

Even if you have a fecal accident, I sure wouldn't run out and keep the people wondering. I doubt they will know what happened unless you tell them. I'm not brave enough to even tell my wife when that happens. I'd just keep on with your speech and try to limit the questions afterwards.

I'd watch enemas. I've heard that one can become dependant on clearing out the bowels that way. I can't imagine it can be healthy if done frequently. I'm sure if you did it once, that would be ok, but what happens the next time you need to speak? What happens if you do this every week? Everyone is different and the subject isn't exactly polite in any company, but I suspect the chance of having a fecal accident during a speech is fairly rare unless one symptom of your incontinence is stress, then I guess I'd look for the plug :D .

quite honestly, if i had to deal with bowel incon, id seriously consider a colostomy. It may be better to deal with the odor and what not, seeing as how the fecal matter is sealed in plastic.. but to each his own.

hmm.. it would depend on how close i was to the audience, and whether it was an open air environment. having a loaded diaper is a lot easier to detect in a crowded room than in hte open air.
