Talk about embarrassing, I had to tell the HR director at work as there has been some confusion about my new HSA health insurance plan. There has been some debate on whether the insurance covers diapers or not. IRS allows the purchase of incontinent supplies but insurance doesn't allow it to go towards the $5,000 deductible. So I had to tell them about the issues I'm having. Totally mortified right now. She is going to look into it and get back to me. They seem to have a knack for getting what they want there. I think our HR folks are awesome, and persuasive. We'll see. I think I may die next time I see her.......

I'm sorry you had to go there. I know telling her was hard for several reasons, but she likely deals with employee medical issues every day. I doubt she gave your reveal any further thought, other than what steps to take to solve the insurance problem.

How did your HR person react to you telling her? Did she actually make you feel embarrassed or was that just your own reaction?

I've had to tell someone at my work as well. He was extremely supportive, other than almost shrugging it off as no big deal. That was about two years ago, and it hasn't come up again since nor has anyone else in my office even hinted they know.

PB&J32, that is the worst! I am sorry you had to do that. I have been in this situation, too, and I tried to be self-effacing and humorous about it, which helped. The folks I talked to handled it with We've-Heard-It-All-Before officialdom, which I think they learn during executive training sessions. They were compassionate in a bureaucratic way.

Our town HR department consists of two females. They are wonderful people and definitely professional from all the dealings I've had with them. I talked with the HR director yesterday. She was extremely professional and explained that she'd heard it all before. I told her it was a daily struggle for the last two years and that I was completely horrified to be talking about it, I'm in the line of work to be helping others and to be in need of assistance is extremely difficult for me. I will keep you posted. She advised me via email today that the Cigna rep they typically deal with is out of the office until 4-13 so I have to wait another week to find anything out, thus, my issues will remain on her agenda for a bit longer. She was not rude or condescending in any way about the whole thing.
