I'm 99% certain Kendall Wings are the most common diaper used in US hospitals. Wings are very cheap, and for whatever reason, hospitals "think" they are saving money by using cheap diapers. It appears the bean counters never count in increased labor cost, and "most" health care professionals no nothing about incon products and have the idea that one adult brief (diaper) is as good as the next. It really is sorry to say that management has the same idea so they probably do save 50 cents per diaper by purchasing what I call "junk" diapers and never think about the labor cost that goings into changing a patient, or the extra cost of laundering linens. I call that steeping over a $20 dollar bill and leaving it behind to pick up a buck. Heath care cost is out of control and many things can be done to bring down the cost but this means a change in how things are done

If you know your going to be visiting the hospital it is ALWAYS best to BYO (Bring Your Own) diapers.

Justej, my suggestion is see if anyone can bring you some "quality" diapers for the remainder of your hospital stay. I HATE wet sheets, and that is what you get with cheap diapers.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

A lot of hospitals have a mandate to change diapers on a schedule, so long wear diapers don't figure into it. Changing linens should be seen as an expense though.

the doctors think i have an autoimmune disease. i get staph infections every 2-3 months and they are getting worse each time. so ill be seeing my primary doc on friday and then going to an infectious disease doc.

more doctors. sigh!

I feel your pain.. while ive not been in the hospital for an extended stay, right now all Medicaid is offering me through J and B medcial is Prevail Per fit, or attends 8...well, i should say what they offer me that I did't reject out of hand for terrible quality. Most of the products i tried were simply terrible. Wings were among them. Tapes would not stick, padding was not adequate.. and just not a good product overall. I remember the good old days when Medicaid couvered Tena ultra.. alas, those days are no more.

Kendall/Covidien is the same. They're Wings Choice Plus diapers. They're very thin and very crinkly. I came home from the hospital from a surgery with one of those on over my Foley catheter. Apparently the nurse walked me around the recovery area with just the gown and diaper on. I believe I carried my own foley bag. I don't remember much of it, but I'm sure it made a whole lot of noise while I was walking around.....yikes......that is embarassing to think of now......

I hope your doctors soon get to the bottom of your medical issues and are able to offer some genuine support.

Being an old guy, I have had several hospital stays over the years. Normally for day and night use, I wear cloth diapers and plastic pants.

Agree, hospital diapers are worthless at best. My wife always bring disposables and plastic pants from home for the staff. they always appreciate this as they keep the bed dry and clean.

When I do wear a disposable diaper, I wear Abena Form X-Plus with plastic pants over them.

When traveling I also pin a Purity 4 layer flat diaper over the disposable just in case of side leaks.
