Although I try to do my best, too often a mistake slips past me, and my grammar check. Remembering these miscues keeps me from saying, or writing, anything when somebody else makes a mistake.

Honestly, this is where our public schools in the US fail us. I never took a formal grammar class, though I wish it had been taught.

I honestly think that only those of us in the U.S. who graduated from high school prior to 1974 got a high-quality free education.

I tend to agree, too much yielding to the lowest common denominators. I did well in college because I educated myself outside of the classroom, had I not I would've been in trouble and woefully unprepared for the rigors of collegiate academia.

Depends on the school. I grew up in a fairly affluent community, that valued education highly. My high school was more like a prep school in some respects. My parents taxes come with hefty local millages to support the schools.
