So, while I am waiting for my follow up appointment for the urodynamics I decided to research the options they pushed most heavily.

Because of my job, dry mouth is not really an option. I have to sing, talk, and chant for hours and cannot imbibe liquids during that time. The doctors understood this and recommended .myrbetriq because it does not cause dry mouth. They did warn that it is not available in generic, but it is $248 a month which is significantly more than I pay for diapers. They also said OAB drugs are considered great if they can diminish symptoms by 50% And that they would not treat the urgency as much as the frequency... So I would still need protection. That strikes me as a huge cosy, even if it does work.

The next thing they suggested because I said no way to surgery unless life threatening and because I botox terrifies me is PTNS.

I was annoyed with the process they told me it would be: 21 weeks 30 minutes of basically acupuncture in my ankle. Aside from the cost of 21 visits and the fact I would need to work that into a schedule, I wanted to research the efficacy of it. I was shocked at how all over the place research shows it. Some say it can cure entirely, some say it only works 20% of the time, and all in between. Then a read up on my insurance on what they will cover and saw that they listed Botox and PTNS as experimental. I had no idea what that means in insurance lingo and found it means, insurance will not pay for it.
So I am in a rock and a hard place as my urologist told me, unless he sees something different on the 6th he is going to prescribe the drug.
I am not sure what to do at that point. I will wait to see what the tests reveal, but I am not sure what to do.

How much of the drug will your insurance cover and what will your co-pay be if you go that route?

I have wellmark and it is tier 4 so I would pay almost all of it. I don't know exactly, but at best 150 at worst 200

Edit. Reading further they will pay half, so it might be 120.

Ultimately, the decision is yours and which will have the better outcome emotionally and financially. My problem with the meds was they made me extremely tired so I decided to to stop the meds and live with the issues. Now I am more alert, but when I leave the house I am wearing protection.

If you haven't already, check out the tread labeled "Doctors" in the General Discussion group.
