Catheter change due

Mon Sep 26, 2011 5:15 pm

just to let everyone i have been contacted by my D.N and have to go to hospital this friday for a spc catheter change.

i do get slightly nervous as i got one stuck a long time ago and it was like a hot poker when they tried to get the catheter out.

i am going to see about a special coated catheter to see what difference it makes.

will let everyone know how i get on,

michael

I had an SPC for ages. We learned how to do the change and did it at home without any problem. It is all about the interval between changes. If the catheter is getting stuck it needs to be changed more often -0 maybe every 4 weeks. I didn't have much problem going 12 weeks or more.

I finally gave up on the SPC when things started going wrong and I was getting leaks for the hole and the urethra so I went back to more normal methods.

Catheter change

just to let everyone know that i have had my catheter change but it did not go smoothly.

i obtained a sample catheter which was supposed to be the same size as i am using, the nurse took out the old catheter but when she tried the new sample it refused to go in.

i went into a panic and thought that the position had been lost.

luckily i took my original catheter with me and that went in okay.

i am now recovering from bladder trauma which should settle down in a few days.

will learn from this not to mess around.

i would like to hear from other catheter users what types of pain relief or meds they use to help with these changes
