Adult Print Waterproof pants

Fri Jan 01, 2010 9:30 am

Many will recall the topic of adult print plastic pants has come up with many wishing for bright and sassy plastic pants much like men's boxer shorts that are available in an incredible selection of bold prints.

But, alas, plastic pants can only be had in juvenile prints. And blocks and teddy bears don't appeal to a lot of adults, who then settle for solid color plastic pants or the institutional white.

Then, along came Changing Times Diaper Company, a small business that got Bumkins Finer Baby Products to produce adult waterproof pants in adult prints, such as stripes and interlocking circles and he has been the sole distributor for these excellent pants that are coated polyester pants, not vinyl plastic pants. The quality is excellent and the fit and comfort are superb!

Now for the bad news. I just got a newsletter that indicates Bumkins (not to be confused with Babykins) is going to go to China for production!

Both Babykins and Bumpkins are Canandian companies. I do hope Babykins can hang in there and not resort to China!

Only Bumpkins makes the adult prints. With the production going overseas, the owner of CTDC is concerned that he won't be able to get small orders, necessary for him to stay in business and he may have to close.

So, my advice is to visit www.changingtimesdiaperco.com and see if you want to try any of the neat prints! There is the possibility they will disappear from the market.

Sizing is the same as Babykins and the waterproof pants have Lycra leg and waist bands just like the Babykins vinyl pants. I am a big Babykins fan and yet was totally satisfied with the Bumpkins products and I got my collection of bold and sassy prints.

As a bonus, these pants are waterproofed with urethane, which is not affected by rash cream such as Desitin so when you are dealing with rash treatment or prevention, urethane pants are needed as you will ruin your vinyl plastic pants with exposure to the oils in rash cream.

I am sorry to hear that Changing Times might have supplier problems. I tried their pants and found that they were of very good quality, wore/washed well and were reasonably priced. Unfortunately the cut was not deep enough for my shape.

Changing Times also has a good quality prefold diaper that is reasonably priced. The fabric is like gauze, but seems a little heavier. They reminded me of the old Edley Enterprise prefolds.

In another post Joe mentioned Changing Times had Snappies to replace pins. I gave them a try and found they worked well with pins to keep tension on the waist as the fabric relaxed and sagged. I couldn't make them work alone, but with pins I get a good fit at the waist. For the price they might be worth a try.

The company is very fast with their shipping and is responsive to emails. I hope they are able to sort out the supplier issues.

Snappies instead of pins

Good testimonial, Steve, I would like to try the diapers offered by CTDC but I've a good stock of diapers and not much money right now so I really can't. But based on your report and that of others, I will try them at some point.

On the other Board, Brew's Adult Incon Board, a current thread is airport security and diaper pins. Metal detectors can pick up diaper pins and even the metal snaps on one piece undershirts. Snaps could not be considered a weapon, but what about diaper pins? Could they be considered a weapon? Who knows!

That thread goes on to urge cloth wearers to just wear disposables and not risk the diaper pin issue.

But there are Velcro on cloth diapers to consider along with Snappies which I'd like to touch on as you say you still need pins even with the Snappies.

I say we can't use the Snappies the way they were intended. They are a T shaped bungee and each end of the "cross of the tee" attaches to the right and left rear wings of the diaper, pulling the diaper together across the baby's belly, while the bottom of the stem is pulled down and attaches to the front crotch of the diaper. Probably works just fine for baby sized diapers!

What works very well for me is to cut off the stem of the Tee on 4 Snappies and now I have 4 plain bungies, two for each side and hook the teeth into the rear wing and tension it and hook to the front of the diaper. I use two on each side....I also 4 pin when I use pins....and the tension is adequate to keep the diaper secured, especially when supported with my suspender briefs or even Spandex body shirts with crotch snaps.

Thanks JoeK. Interesting about the other forum's airport discussion. I guess I just need to relax a little. It is what it is.

Changing Times is really giving good effort to make a go of it. I placed another small order on Saturday and received it via USPS on Monday. Granted I'm close, but they went out of the way to ship on Saturday!

I was looking for replacements for the Gary 'long waisted' thin (4 mil) pants I've ordered elsewhere and noticed that they had them. The nice part is that they have the slightly wider elastics that I find are more comfortable.

I also ordered the cloth they offer. I've used them before. The shape is still a little more 'square' than I like for fit, but they wear like iron and have really good absorbency. Price is OK too.

Sorry for the commercial, but I really appreciate a vendor working to take care of their customers.

Diaper review

I sometimes feel as you do, SteveM, that I'm doing a commerical when I "sing the praises" of KINS (Babykins) and CTDC, but we are not employed by, nor own stock in, the companies so we are giving our own opinions and advice for others to consider.

It is nice to be able to come to an incon board and see real reviews of stuff that works and get warned of stuff that doesn't work. We normally see a lot of pros and cons about disposable diapers, so anyone reading our forum should be aware of what a "good" disposable diaper is, thanks to the comments by so many of our members.

When a "new" cloth diaper appears on the scene, it is nice to read what others have to say about it, especially in light of the considerable $ investment involved in cloth diapers.

I would like to suggest we take our discussion of CTDC cloth diapers to the "What type of diaper do you find best" in an effort to keep content where it is most easily found by people perusing the site.

Hi Jed51

It's a process for newbies to get onto the board, I'm sorry to say! Unlike Schoppy's board that allows anyone to read the messages but requires membership to post messages....Brew's board doesn't allow non members to even read the messages.

Joining is not a problem, just that it can be a slow thing since only one man is doing the screening. We certainly do like to have new members and I think I can say anyone from Schoppy's forum should get on the fast track for approval to join Adult Incon. I'll certainly do what I can to hustle things along!

If you'd like to join and apply by sending an introductory e-mail to the owner, be sure to say you are a member of Schoppy's ISC.

So go to General Discussion, if your would!
