ADISC.ORG is shutting down Sept 16th 2025, which may bring some people back here again. I myself (and a few others) spent time there because the activity level was higher. But I never totally left, only I didn't check it as often. I still owe my gratitude to many here for getting me started. It's hard to believe, but I'm going to be IC for 5 years in December (2025).

I hope someone is able to take over the forum because when a forum gets big like ADISC is, there's so much of users' lives represented in it and the owner can just decide "that's it, I'm done" and it's all gone. Same happened a few months ago with the Eunuch Archive; first it went private as a result of hostile media attention aimed at the transgender community, then the owner (who'd hosted it himself at his home) decided enough was enough and shut it down. I suspect the age verification issue has something to do with it; Moo decided to ban all the British members and geoblock the UK so as not to have the trouble of complying with the new law, and that excludes a lot of users on an English language site.

Ya, that whole age verification thing is a ridiculous "no win" requirement. Politicians need some common sense education in basic computer matters. Another is this constant push for backdoors in encryption algorithms. When will they learn?
