Airing out

Mon Dec 16, 2024 12:06 pm

When I first started having issues with incontinence, I managed my incontinence by using a McGuire style body worn urinal. But the McGuire unit had its limitations, and I switched to using diapers full time. I realized however, that I can use the McGuire urinal as a method of airing out my diaper area. By wearing the McGuire urinal at home, I can allow myself to air out for a full day (or days) and the limitations of the McGuire Urinal (need for frequently emptying of the leg bag, potential hose separation) can easily be cared for at home.

Good idea.

I usually air out by sitting on a heavy cloth booster pad (highly absorbent). Otherwise I will sit on an open new diaper. That way, if I leak, I just tape up the diaper.

As I am OAB and have some small control left, another thing I will do is to set my watch alarm for timed voiding. That (usually) reminds me to go pee before I inadvertently do while airing out.

While it is not as good as airing out, I have included breathable shell diapers as day diapers although I continue to wear plastic-shell diapers at night.

As I recently have been subject to getting irritation/rash at a skin fold where the waist of my diapers and diaper covers hits, I have been airing out for longer periods. I suspect that my wife wonders why I have become an exhibitionist at my senior age.

Airing Out is so important I usually sit on a diaper when doing this.

The linked advice is brilliant.
