Booster pads

Mon Mar 30, 2009 11:33 pm

Has anyone tried the booster pads from Abena? I usually go for seven hours between diaper changes. However I am starting a new job in May that will require me to commute an hour each way. I wear Abri-form xtra-plus diapers but am wondering if I should add a booster to them as well.

Yes I use thier full length boosters. They do add a fair amount of bulk. As far as how much they help ? Well in my opinion the Full Contour Booster from Tranquility is a much better choice. The Abena boosters due hold a far amount but the big draw back to me is ONE they don't hold back the wetness you feel VERY wet. So if your going to use these for extended wear like your saying 7 hours is a long time to feel wet. Also if your walking standing even laying for say and you mange to soak the abena booster watch out when you sit down on it it will be like squeezing a sponge. I also wear lots of the Abena X Plus Diapers myself. and like them. But to be honest their boosters in my opinion are fair at best.

The tranquility boosters are a great choice in my opinion The do hold a fair amount. Much more then you would think they would looking at them. They don't add near the bulk to your diaper as the abena ones will. And the big one is they lock the wetness away from your skin. So you feel much dryer Often times when I change I'm surprised at how wet my diaper is as compared to how wet I feel when I use the Tranquility full contour boosters...........Sandy :)

I use the Abrilet Maxi boosters (the big ones) in combination with lesser diapers like Attends or Abriform Supers. I've found that adding one to an Abriform X-plus makes it too bulky and will actually cause the diaper to leak because the edges don't sit flush against your skin anymore. Attends have extra wide sides so you can actually fit two boosters in there if you want without worrying about leaks.

But, as Sandy said, the downside to the boosters is you do feel wet. Some folks don't mind it... some do.

For awhile I was using the full length boosters for day and nighttime use. However, I found that my likelihood of getting a rash when using the boosters enormously outweighed the benefits of the extra absorbency. In fact, it seemed I was wasting them because of how uncomfortable they got (I really felt a lot "wetter" than without them).

Your mileage my vary of course! :D

Well I just went on an automatic delivery schedule for my diapers. In addition I ordered a pack of the full length booster pads at 6"x24." I will give them a try and report whether I too develop diaper rash. I ordered the medium booster pads last week and they are on the small side. Although they did help, I didn't feel they absorbed enough in my opinion.

I've gotten some screaming deals on shields/liners lately and I've been using them as boosters. They are the size of the full length boosters being discussed in this thread. But have a plastic backing and have a adhesive strip on them to hold them in place. Of course when using these as boosters it's best to poke a bunch of holes in the plastic to allow the wetness to go through and into the diaper itself. One advantage of these is the adhesive strip. I know I've read before about people not liking the boosters because they move around. I've not had much problem with that :?: I was thinking it maybe a male thing being you guys would more then likely pull the booster more up the front :?: Which may cause it to want to drop down :?: Where a female would have the booster more centered between our legs. .............................Sandy :)

Good thinking Sandy but what about the bulk? If I use a booster pad most the time its for night use just because I don't want any bulk.

If your going to add a booster your going to add extra bulk. But your also adding extra security as well  ................Sandy :)

Booster Pads

Yes, while booster pads do add bulk and, therefore, make my protection more obvious, I also associate that bulk with increased security. I gave up my concerns about anyone discerning that I have to use protection long ago, so the security is paramount for me.

I almost always use an Abena Normal (4" x 15") booster pad with Abena Supers. I figure that the booster pad increases my protection's capacity by at least an hour, and I like knowing that I have that safety margin.

We use the Tranquility boosters with the ATN diapers to help get me through the night. Sometimes if I'm having a bad morning I need a booster as well. But mostly not anymore. Before I sucsesfully could stay with my bowel program the boosters were nice if I had a messy event.
