Welp. The word is out.

Mon Dec 06, 2021 2:32 pm

One of my neighbors asked me last night if I wore depends and if she could borrow some. I had some pull ups I hadn’t used and I gave her those. Word travels fast around and I’m sure my big boxes every month and trash is a dead giveaway. Some of my neighbors have been in my apartment and they have probably seen the packs but I’m not sure they know what they are. Oh well. Life goes on. Yep. Elijah wears diapers.

That's not exactly the kind of notoriety that anyone wants! I guess it is best to just roll with it, as you did.

As they say "you can't un-ring a bell".
It seemed very forward of your female neighbor to ask if she could borrow a few Depends.
Could I borrow a couple of eggs too? Something feels a bit off there. :?

I hope that she doesn't plan to return the "borrowed" Depends!

I see this incident as another wound in the stigma. Eventually, if enough of us come out, while showing our detractors how well we manage, how much we can contribute, attitudes and the stigma will change, for the better.

Steve - all of us neighbors in the building are pretty close so it’s not uncommon for us to borrow things from each other. Granted this is the first time someone asked me for diapers. :D

Wow. That's not something I think I'd have the nerve to ask someone about. Incontinence is an extremely sensitive and private matter for me and I would be incredibly uncomfortable with someone inquiring like that. Likewise, I wouldn't ever want to put someone on the spot like that.

A very close and established relationship where my private matters were openly known, maybe. But a neighbor or acquaintance, no.

I'm sorry you were put in that position. Shame on your neighbor, whether you were cool with it or not.

I totally agree. After almost 30 years of Incon. and wearing diapers, the stigma is meaningless to me. Just about everyone I Know, is aware of my situation. I often crack jokes about it. After all this time and using very good products (Seni Quattro.), Incontinence is a non issue.
