Some medicines increase the risk of dementia, included medicine against urinary incontinence.

As one who just started one of these medications, I am concerned. Im a relatively young man, under 40, and no way no how do I want to raise my risk of dementia. I wonder how a report and study like this weighs into decisions making for doctors prescribing meds.

This was a significant factor in my decision to use diapers rather than medications. The long-term, mental health risks associated with these detrusser-relaxant medications are pretty well-established. I wish the urological community was more forward in discussing these issues. My own practitioner did not tell me about the side effects. A mental fog had descended upon me after I was prescribed Oxybutynin, and I learned about the long-term side effects while researching the short-term ones. Personally, I think increased dementia risk is worse than urinary incontinence. I would rather wear a diaper for the rest of my life than increase my risk of losing mental acuity.

I agree I refused medication on the grounds of reading about the side effects far rather wear diapers than subject myself to unnecessary suffering. Looks like I might have made a good choice for once. I have a set routine for the management of diapers that works for me so happy days!

I to refused meds due to the possible side effects and the fact they do not work 100% of the time after 3 .5 years of being back in diapers I still donot regret skipping the meds and choosing diapers to manage my bladder issue.

I too gave up on taking meds for this as they didn't work all the time and the side affects were horrible.

Thanks for the information. I've been taking Oxybutynin for a long time, but not any more thanks to your article. After reading the article, I did some research and talked to my doc.
I'm going to stop taking that med and see what happens.
