I have a hiking trip to the Mighty 5 in Utah in the spring. I am going by myself. I will be hydrating myself which means I will be going through protection quicker than normal. I am concerned about finding a place to change during a hike or bringing diapers with me to change in the wilderness. Advice??

Hi fiacs:
This is actually a tough question to answer as there are a lot of factors to take into account to try to figure out what kind of, and how much, protection you will need for the hike. For example, what is the level of your incontinence, how long will the outing last, what facilities will be available? Yeah, it can get pretty complicated to figure out beforehand and that is one of the more difficult things about incontinence. Without having a lot of the aforementioned information I would suggest trying to use male guards (pads) inside of a quality pull-up like an Abena Abri-flex. The pads hold quite a bit and can be easily removed and replaced in just seconds and without the need for a particularly private area to make the change. In addition the pads are small and you can carry a lot of them in a relatively small space. Even though I'm not a hiker I would suggest a lightweight compression type pant over everything to reduce chaffing and to help keep everything in place. Another benefit to this combo is that when possible you can pull down the diaper and compression pant and urinate normally. Obviously I don't know if this will work for you but it's what I would try in your situation. Also, please let us know what you did protection-wise on the hike and how well it worked. Hope this helps and have fun on the hike!

My daily routine is to use a premier medical diaper (Confidry, Abena) during the day. I wear cloth diapers at night.
Your idea about pads convinced me to wear a disposable booster with my cloth diaper when I go hiking. Its easier to change my booster every hour than to change a diaper.
I will let you know how it works
