I am an old member haven’t been on the board much lately well let’s say a long time.
Well I had to say I have a big decision to make.
For those that remember me may remember my problems for those that don’t know me a short topic.
I been using a Foley for almost eight years with great success things were going as planed but then I got a UTI one of several this one is serious almost seeps.
I have two ways to go one stay with a catheter or two go for a Sphincterotomy surgery. My doctor said I be permanent incontinent no going back. I don’t know if I like my back to the wall like that.
Has anyone had a Sphincterotomy what was your outcome.
I guess I don’t know if I like diapers 24/7.
Thankyou

I can't speak for the Sphincterotomy surgery , But I used to use a Foley and Like you even though I kept great care to keep clean and Sterile I ended up with some severe Uti's and one even turned into a severe kidney infection that was the sickest i have ever been in my life, I made the choice to wear diapers to manage my bladder and have never looked back. wearing diapers 24/7 can be a pain but it's also been very freeing at the same time. one thing for sure i have almost no UTI's wearing a diaper and the very few i have gotten have been so minor they cleared up without treatment.

Hi realworldic
You are right one has to keep clean with a catheter.
I have been using a Foley for eight years I got my first infection when the first catheter was put in at the hospital. It took two IV drips of antibiotics plus a couple of pill antibiotics to clear it up. I hope this UTI goes easier than first one. This one was also put in at the hospital. This infection looks bad it took several antibiotics so far they said it gone but I think different but who am I.
I also have some bowel incontinent not bad with both contaminating each other.
I am donning well with handling both so far no UTI's with it.
This brings up what I am trying to find answers for if cutting the Sphincter at the bladder will it affects the Bowel Sphincter I don’t need any more problems.
I do believe having a Sphincterotomy may be a safer way to go less UTI's and less problems except bladder leakage that I would have to live with. This is another thing are people that had a Sphincterotomy how are they coping.
According to my doctor after it is done there iis no risks of cancer except what damage the Foley may have done in fact I should be good,
One hitch I have some problems when in the hospital they found several things that may put a clinker to this mess. Amuck Amuck Amuck

I did have a sphincterotomy back in August, 1999. As a result, I leak almost continually, although I may need another sphincterotomy in the future. My surgery followed numerous Botox injections that worked, but only temporarily. My surgery ended years of intense bladder pain and the threat of reflux damage to my kidneys. If you understand what a sphincterotomy will do, and are prepared to manage the continual leakage that will result, go for it, with my blessing.
