Going traveling to see the Solar Eclipse

Sat Aug 19, 2017 8:57 am

Hi yall

I am going to be gone for a few days. I'm going to be traveling with my nephew to go see the solar eclipse. :D :D
Its going to be about a 8-9 hour drive but we are looking forward to going.
We are going to try to meet up with some family members at a camp ground.
We got 2 tents and its going to be a lot of fun.

Did I say that we are looking forward to leaving?

We will be packing the car in a few minutes then heading out to North Carolina
I know that ill be packing too many diapers but I don't want to run out.
My family all know that im stuck in diapers and they are all very supportive about it.
When I get back ill try to post a couple photos of it. :D

Those of you going to see the Solar Eclipse enjoy I still look back at the one in the UK in 1999.

Don't look up use genuine viewing glasses only if not paper with a hole in to project on a non reflective surface. However just enjoy the experience and watch how the wildlife react.

Some people have a mini jet lag so don't worry if you feel tired afterwards just go to bed till the next morning.

Take care all

The eclipse was pretty uneventful here in dc.
The sky went grey and then it rained

Well my nephew and I made it back home.
We was at Murphy NC at a nice campground called Crawford's Campground.

I had a wonderful time and got some nice photos.
LOL I took OVER 400 photos of it.

I still have to process them and see just what I got.

It was about an 8 HR drive getting there but it was really worth it.
About 4 hours out of the house and about 1/2 way there, I turned to my Nephew and said that I think I REALLY screwed up.
He asked what I did this time and I said that I had forgot to pack my big telephoto lense for my camera <DUH>

I have a 400mm lense with a 2X doubler to make it 800 mm.
It was sitting here next to my computer LOL
Luckily my brother had a 300mm lense that I got to use. It wasnt nearly as good as mine but it still worked out.

The trip coming back home was a nightmare. I knew that we would get into heavy traffic but not as bad as it was.
We left the campground just after totality and just before 3pm, we didnt get home till just before 3am
it was a 12 hour trip just to get back home. 3 1/2 hours was an average speed of 14mph.
We even stopped for about 45 min to get some supper and let the car cool down some.

LOL as soon as we got home and got the important stuff unloaded (diaper bag, camera, food, etc) I started to upload the photos from my camera to my computer then I went to bed.

Here is one of the photos that I took during totality. :D :D

I can imagine it was pretty spectacular. I live in Iowa, so it wasn't that special. My wife did make a pin hole camera out of a cereal box, so we were able to see a little sliver of the eclipse through some clouds. Glad the trip went well. Sorry about the traffic.
